FWIW, I had a Crucial M.2 drive fail within a year of purchase, and I submitted a warranty claim.
With their chat, they provided instructions on how to use their diagnostics tool, and the Crucial rep could see that the drive was almost completely dead. However, they required me to send the defective M.2 drive before they would send a replacement. Then it took 3 to 4 weeks for them to send the replacement.

How is the 850x a better offer when it's more expensive at $139 while also being slower at 7300 mbps?
lol its not 139 anymore -- all SSDs have jumped in price much like RAM. this is a slickdeal as far as im concerned because its probably the only SSD that is offered at its "old" price. sad times ahead.

That's generally how most RMAs work these days, was the same with Corsair when I RMAd an H80i V2, and ASRock when I RMAd an ASRock x670e of lightning. I'm in new England and most of these companies have you ground ship to a warehouse in California, which takes about a week each way
I had to RMA my Samsung 980 Pro for the problem where sectors would begin dying. They asked for a credit card, charged a hold to it for the amount of the replacement drive, and shipped me the replacement. After I received it and salvaged what data I could from the old drive onto the new one, I shipped the bad drive back. When they got it, they released a hold on my credit card. I was never charged for the new drive - a hold just means they're reserving the option to charge in the future (your available credit decreases by the hold amount).
That seems a much more sensible approach than requiring the bad drive be sent back first.
