Got this deal for $4.78 after a 5+ subscribe and save deal. But thanks for the Costco price heads up, you still save a little if you are there and buy other stuff at the same time

After reading online that craisins only last a couple of months once opened, I splurged and bought these for my thanksgiving stuffing recipe, since the bag I bought at Costco three years agos has probably seen better days. The thought of going to Costco to buy another fresh bag Thanksgiving week it just not worth the effort.

Never heard that. I would think time may crystalize the sugars some, but steep them in a bit of boiling water before use and I bet they'd be just fine. I use raisins that are pretty old sometimes and this seems to bring them right back.

Why is so much sugar needed for this?

I hadn't heard of it either. I looked at them and they do look a little dried out and they're stuck together. I'll save them for my own personal use, use the fresh ones for my family.

Stick them in the freezer after opening. I buy a bag every other year for cookies and they stay fine. If frozen or not they have more flavor and softer texture if you cover them with water and put them in the microwave for a minute and then drain them before using.

Have you ever tasted a cranberry? LOL....

FWIW, these actually have similar sugar content (per gram) vs non-sugar added raisins. Not why this is so shocking to so many people. Once you remove the water from fruit you either have (almost) pure sugar or the most tart object on earth...which requires added sugar to be tolerable.

Raisins, 26 grams of sugar per 40 gram serving

Just soak in water for a few minutes before using. They're no dryer "fresh". They're called Dried Cranberries. I do the same for raisins when I use them in cooking. Just finished a bag that I bought last Nov.

These are "added" sugar. Specifically 26 grams of added sugar per 40 gram serving. That's 65% sugar content. 26 grams is approximately 6.5 teaspoon of sugar.
Kroger/Ralph's actually has ocean spray cranberries with 50% less (8g) added sugar, that's what i get all the time.

Added sugar = sugar. Your metabolism can't read the food packaging label.

BTW, added or not their cranberries still have the same total sugar.

P.S. If you are buying the less added sugar version...then what is the problem? Of course it isn't comparable thus it isn't worth comparing. Ocean Spray also makes the same 50% less sugar version...buy that. LOL....
