I got the microcenter deal on this and returned it. Loved the UI and wired speed but the wifi range was very poor compared to my asus ax11000 pro. I am in a 2200sqft home and where was was getting 600mps on my Asus I was getting roughly 150 on the UD7.

This is an actual well known brand and highly regarded. Typically small businesses and up but people still buy it for home use . Warranty and support is enterprise level. Unifi is scalable and has an ecosystem all managed on an awesome software platform

For ubiquiti, it's a cheap entry point into a do (nearly) everything starter - supports most of their apps, so you can grow into their ecosystem a little bit before needing to do any significant additional upgrades. Maybe only a managed switch if they have additional runs to plug in.

But if you think you'll want more/higher quality ui cameras than what it can support, then you'd have to look at splitting the gateway and access point(s)

Ubiquiti is very much like Apple - they have an ecosystem that plays nice with each other, so you can manage everything from the same place, versus having to manage each part of your network individually. You do pay up front for that convenience though.

This or Flint 3 I just ordered for $152?????? I don't understand the hype behind this brand. I just want a reliable and fast router that covers my 4 bedroom home, I don't live a sprawling mansion either but do have 4 TVs now and many laptops and Ring cameras.....
"reliable and fast router " this is exactly what Ubiquiti delivers. I never had an router that don't require reboot once awhile (few weeks to few months), until i switched over to Ubiquiti product.

It covers my moms entire 2500 sq ft house, and allows me a dead simple point and click management layer. About to pick another one up for my AirBnB rental.
Love my Eero for our beach rentals

if I don't use their NVR system (currently with Reolink NVR), is it ok to buy this to replace my tp-link ax1800 router? Also they only have 3 LAN port but 2 WAN port? 1 WAN port is 10G but all LAN port is only 2.5G, does that make sense?

My current router an Asus RT-AC3100 with a theoretical 5GHz throughput of 2167Mbps. I can currently get a consistent 500Mbps download speed on my PC with a 1.2Gbps internet plan. My wifi range is pretty poor in my new (smaller) house. This router is listed with up to 1670Mbps. Could I expect better download speeds and range with this newer router?

Aren't most Asus/Netgear/Etc Wifi 7 routers around this price point? It doesn't seem much more expensive than other brands.

Microcenter started marking these down a month ago. Unifi has been introducing new hardware at such a blistering pace that I feel like an improved version is coming soon. Probably either more 10G non-SFP ports or more PoE enabled ports.

Regardless, this is a great entry drug to kick off a ubiquiti addiction.

Wifi performance is entirely dependent on signal quality and also how well the client and access point hardware interoperate. Higher frequency radios struggle more with obstructions (2.4 GHz is much better at going through things). Routers are advertised with funky methods like just adding up the theoretical max bandwidth of all the radios. And with Wifi every client is sharing the bandwidth of whatever radio they are connected to with other devices connected to it.

Also, if your devices are 802.11ac, they will be using 802.11ac with the new router too. To get the most out of a new router you would need to make sure everything is 802.11ax / be.

Personally I just look for usable Wifi performance. If speed and latency are important I hook up a wire.

It really shines off you want to add poe access points.

Though I'd return the flint 2 if you can and get the flint 3 which is on discount ATM.
If you use WireGuard at all, the Flint 2 VPN bandwidth is almost double that if the Flint 3.

I would go with the cloud gateway fiber if you already have an NVR and grab an ap to go with it.

Can this router tell you what URL traffic is coming through my network? My ASUS router breaks it down by each client and is very helpful.

Don't forget the UXG series requires a controller to manage it! This is not the Unifi Cloud Gateway series which has a built-in controller for management.

IE: UCG-Fiber [ui.com] which is NOT on sale!

Per your linked product page, first bullet:

Managed with a CloudKey, Official UniFi Hosting, or UniFi Network Server
You can host your own server [ui.com] on a NAS or something... but it'll only be for the Network portion. Not Protect (for cameras) - you'd need a cloudkey or something else.

Bought this at MicroCenter about a month ago (same price - grand opening special), and its by far the best router/wifi I've ever used. It replaced a TP Link mesh system. Highly recommend.

WoW, great catch. I didn't notice it is not the cloud version. (UCG vs UXG). Almost pull the trigger on this UXG-Fiber, but I really needed is UCG-FIber !!!

I was really considering this approach, but it is really quite expensive. UCB Fiber is a lot more expandable than the UDR7, but the APs are like $199 a piece. The U7 Lite is $99 but not supporting 6GHz is a bit of a letdown when the UDR7 itself supports it. It is definitely not necessary to have these extra features but if that is the mindset, why pay up for Ubiquiti in the first place? For a larger home, one AP will likely not be enough, and you need at least 2 or 3.

To me the UDR7 seems like a solid option if it works for you and your space isn't large enough to need additional APs. Otherwise, it is not really worth it to go the Unifi route unless you are some sort of networking enthusiast or really want to add more to the ecosystem.
