I own the 1000mi and have tried on Iron Rangers. My impression is that the Wolverines are instantly more comfortable with less break in, and a more supple leather. IRs are tougher and I would assume more durable, but break in can be hell (per my convo with a friend who owns a pair). He said they're really comfy now though.

One can find red wing iron ranger for that price. Having experience with both I think ranger is a better boot.

Is this it? This is the big one? I was hoping they would hit $200 or less.

I've been keeping my eye on these since the summertime, and it seems the price doesn't fluctuate at all: always $250. I've yet to see it lower than this.

What's the sizing recommendation on these? I seem to recall people saying to go down half or a whole size.

They don't have my size :'( Wanted the originals. I love my brown ones from last year's sale.

I own two pairs of these and definitely go a full size down. One pair I wear for work for 10 hours a day, 4 days a week. The other for going out on the town. They are Nice. You can get a very good shine on them if you have good polish. I'm very happy with both sets. Bought my first pair when they were $200 and happily bought my second pair few months back at $250. I love them. Once they break in, they perfectly fit your feet. Use some Mink oil to speed up the process and you won't regret them. Very well made as you would expect for a $400 retail price of a boot. IMO.

kinda crazy that what was once a true work boot made for working people doing really hard work has become a fashion trend. good for their marketing team! comparatively speaking, i recall this running about $70 back in the day. in today's money, still the same value.

Go for your actual Brannock size, not what most shoe brands use. Brannock is like 2 sizes smaller for me. The leather soles look nice but they have also models with actual rubber soles if you want work boots.

Looking to add a black boot to my collection. Should I go for the same size as my Red Wing IRs? Or should I size up a bit?

1000 miles doesn't seem like it's enough. That'll only get you from California to 1/3 across the country.

For those unaware of the YouTube Channel 'Rose Anvil'; they do a great job of buying boots, cutting them in half and walking through if it is quality construction or overpriced hype.

They did a video focused on this boot:

Here's the comparison between this and the Red Wing Iron Ranger.

I have 2 pairs of 1000 mile boots, plain toe original and rugged. Normally I wear size 9.5, went with a 9 on these and they fit great. Both pairs were pretty comfortable out of the box, didn't really have to be broken in.
