Here's my annual Black Friday post... Bought these four black Friday's ago and they are still going strong. I use them regularly, averaging multiple times per week. I am careful not to beat them up, never dropped, don't pound them on the floor. And I have never had a problem with them. Weight adjustment works perfectly, no loose weights or any other issue. I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.
FitRx SmartBell adjustable dumbbells stand out for fast one handed weight changes and a compact rack that fits a home gym setup. The 52.5 pound set offers 15 weight configurations, and the locking system works well when the cradle is set down straight. Long term use has held up for some, but the design is also described as bulky, a bit shaky, and less smooth to slide than Bowflex. A few comments also point to durability concerns and a recall on the 90 pound SmartBell XL line, making this a practical pick if quick adjustments matter more than a smaller footprint.
Home gym lifters doing timed circuits, because the weight changes quickly enough to switch during rest breaks.
The weight changes are quick and can be done one-handed, which makes them convenient during short rest periods. They work best when you set the dumbbell back into the cradle straight; tilting it can keep it from locking in properly.
Yes. The 52.5 lb version is described as long and bulky even at lighter settings, with the 52.5 lb model measuring about 18 inches and lacking the taper of the 25 lb version. That extra size can make lower-weight exercises feel awkward.
It can hold up well with regular use if handled carefully and not dropped or pounded on the floor. One long-term owner reported four years of frequent use with no loose weights or adjustment problems, while another commenter strongly preferred sturdier alternatives like PowerBlock or Eisenlink/iFast.

If most of your exercises are done with 25 pounds per hand or below you will hate working out with these 55s version, they are big and bulky, even at the lightest selected weight they are way too big and long. Consider buying a separate more compact 25 pound adjustable version, What these companies need to do is to make much more compact and sturdier versions that go form 25 to 52 for heavier lifts, rather than this clunky bulky shaky atrocity
For context 100 pound dumbbells at my gym are way smaller in size than this 52 pound clunker.

Why do they suck?
For what it's worth, I've been using them for several years and I think they're great. I like that it's easy and quick to change the weights one handed. I think as long as you make sure to set the weights back into the cradle straight, you shouldn't have any problems. If you tilt the weight as you set it down, it might not lock in properly but I've never really had any major issues.

I just got the 25 lb version of this, and yeah it is bulky and and a bit shaky though I find them usable enough. The 25 lb is 14" long and more tapered, vs this 52.5 version is 18" long and untapered so yeah it'll be even more bulky and awkward in the lower weight ranges.

It seems to have good reviews but I would never recommend this design to anyone. Get powerblock or eisenlink/ifast. Slightly costlier but will last you a lifetime and have option to buy weight increments as you get there.
Disagree with this. I really like my PowerBlocks, but the efficiency with which you can change the weight increment using something like this is where the advantage is. I have timed workouts I follow. I use a mix of these and the PowerBlocks because the PowerBlocks delay how quickly I can get through my workout, where these I can easily switch during my break/rest time before I have to start again. So it depends on how you use them.
Should I get a pair of these for $170 or stick with the CAP hex adjustable 55lb pair that I bought for $204?
I'm in the same boat. I'll stick with the CAP I think maybe slightly higher build quality. I got the 2 year warranty in case anything happens. If they hold up for 2 years I'll call it a win.
CAP adjustable dumbbells are way better quality, they are more compact (even comparing at the same weight size) and less shaky than FitRx. Also more modern and better looking.

Just FYI, the 90 lbs ones were under recall earlier this year. I would assume the 52.5 lb version is okay but please be aware. Recall was from March 2025.

Do you know if CAP carries these for 90 lbs, can you send a link if you have it? Thanks!
