Class G amp is interesting design.

However, like most mainstream 2-channel receivers, it has a subwoofer pre-out but doesn't have BASS MANAGEMENT (i.e. "High Pass Filter") ... idiotic.

For this reason, you are better off spending $400-500 on a multichannel receiver that has this feature.

Outrageously stupid, when even the fricking little mini-amps (RSL ia255, Wiim Amp, SMSL A50, etc.) now offer a HPF!

This is a good point. However, a potential workaround is using a preamp like the Wiim Ultra and letting it handle the bass management. The downside is it makes all the AVR functions on this receiver irrelevant. But it's a workable option for anyone who just wants to use this as a power amp.

Well in that case you might as well get the Wiim Amp, Amp Pro, or Amp Ultra for less than this Onkyo.

The Wiim Amp and Amp Pro are underpowered compared to this. The Wiim Amp Ultra is an easy winner if you like class D, but, right or wrong, many audiophiles dislike it. The unique selling point of this amp is class G amplification.

I don't really care about class G, personally, but clearly some do.

I doubt anybody would be able to hear much difference between G and D unless micro-listening at extremely high SPLs.

Similarly, the rated power numbers of the Wiim amps and other mini-amps is irrelevant in real life usage, as opposed to audiophile micro-listening at high SPL, unless one stupidly buys speakers with both low impedance and low sensitivity plus sits much further away than the usual 8-10ft listening distance. .
