I've tried the setup, however the results have not been as great as with a phone. I think it's because of how dense the go pros are when compared to a phone, it messed up the gimbal stabilization. I've reviewed footage and found that a regular gopro hand held stick has better stability with an OIS on when compared with the GoPro mounted to this gimbal.
Software compatibility does not exist between the two, if that's a question.
Yea.. what's the difference between this and the recent deal for the version 6 (like new) for $45 I just got? Think I'm still within the return window.

I was looking for the answer, too. Looks like the 7p, at least, has a significantly beefier battery, 3350mah vs 1000mah which, according to osmo's website:

Looks like it gets 10 hours vs the 6's six and a half hours.
The little extra module thing is also the big feature of the 7P...it has it's own camera for the enhanced tracking and can be used like a remote mic or additional lighting. I just ordered this myself, so I can't comment how good or important this is.
This is a GREAT deal ..I paid $169 for this earlier in the summer. It's really nice with the mini light and it transmits audio to the phone from a DJI Mic if you have one.
FYI there is a newer version of this that just came out, though the only difference is it can rotate 360.

Yes, a big feature omitted in the osmo 7 was the retractible/extendable rod. The 6 did have this feature.
This was a big omission and felt like they were pushing people into purchasing the 7p…but then I found out that certain theme parks and venues may restrict the use of extendable rods/selfie sticks. So, that may be an advantage for those types of consumers.
I myself got the OM 7 during Amazon Prime days for $50 after tax. But probably going to return it and get this 7P instead to get the features omitted in the 7. I didnt care much for the module, but I have come to find that its tracking features don't require the app and it essentially operates on its own, which is nice.
I got both the 7 and 7p on Prime day. They both do tracking, just that the 7 requires you to use their app. 7p module is good if you need lighting, connect to dji mic, app free tracking. 7p has the selfie extension as mentioned above.
