If you already own the batteries, this may be a good deal.

If you don't, don't assume you can just buy Ego batteries and still save money; they overcharge for buying batteries without a tool. Buying the batteries with a mower, is far far cheaper than buying by themselves.

So your options with this are: You already have the batteries, or you plan to use generic compatible batteries (and all the tradeoffs with doing so).

I'm ko expert at reading a Woot page but it doesn't look like they had very many to sell. Less than 10 woots?

I knew I had no chance at this time. Stats seem to say it was sold out in 27 minutes. Sold out faster than Lion King tickets coming to your city. Also seemed like there was only one unit. One of the slickest deals this Black Friday season. This required perfect timing.

Either a greedy scalper or some rich old fart with 1000 acres of uncut Wisconsin grass.

any experience with using the off brand batteries? what are the cons, in your opinion?

Buying brand new batteries outright is crazy. Don't think I ever seen them with much of a deal on them.Used and off branded batteries are a gamble. I have a used one that's a couple years old and it's been working great. If you're going to get a used one, at least get the one with a fuel gauge. Also check the date on it. Newer is less likely to have issues.

Off branded batteries I don't have experience with Ego specific. But buying off brand for other type of things, I've experience a lack of heat control, which causes the battery to shut off. And the inability to run as long like the original. I assume it would be true for ego off branded ones too. You'll get lower quality batteries and heat mitigation. But they are a lot cheaper. If you want like a 5.0 ego version, I recommend going higher and get the 7.5 off branded version.

Agree that combo deals are pretty good. The only problem is that a lot of the good deals are bundled with the smaller batteries.
