One drawback to this is upload and download speeds are not symmetric - the headline advertised speed is the download speed, but upload speeds are typically significantly lower. For example, looking at the Broadband Facts of the 1 Gig plan in my area, they specify typical download speed at 1170 mbps and typical upload speed at 117 mbps. In the past in different areas, I've seen advertised typical upload speeds as low as 20-40 mbps.
That may be perfectly fine for many people, in which case this is a good deal. But make sure to take a look at the upload speed for your area and confirm that it's fast enough for your needs.

I placed order on 03Dec and old account did not get canceled yet even though I received email on 04Dec itself that they recieved my cancellation request. I am calling to cancel old account. Tried chat and they said they cannot cancel via chat.

Unsure if this is a special case given how close in time my initial activation was, but perhaps current subscribers can give it a shot if you recently started service? Just providing a data point for consideration!

You call and tell them to disconnect the old account. They may ask why. Just tell them your roommate is taking over the bill if the names are different. You can have multiple accounts at same address. The line will not get disconnected immediately. Wait an hour or minutes later call back and say you want to activate the new modem. They will say you already have an account. Tell them that's under you roommate and has been canceled. For same name, I am not sure.
just checked my old account and it looks like it's not active anymore? It shows no internet plan or anything.
