Slower than the $200 i3-1315U that BestBuy had for the past few days by about 25%. More to the point, slower per core by a larger margin than that. Not good. That said, double the storage of the $200 BB laptop, and...it's available; the $200 deal is over, so there's that too.

LPDDR is always soldered. Your need a CAMM socket otherwise and like... nothing in the cheap category will or can have that.

I think $200-220 is semi-frequent pricing for those cheap i3-1315U systems (which will be replaced by identical Intel Core 3 100U refresh eventually). The one I got had 128 GB soldered storage, but an empty SODIMM slot, so a bit of a mixed bag but fine for light use.

Agree. I think the Intel i3 represents a nice speed bump over the Ryzen parts, so worth focusing on that in this scenario.

This machine doesn't just have higher passmark scores, it has 50 - 80% higher passmark scores, has IPS display, and cost $280 when the deal was posted.

So I assure you this Ryzen 5 7520U deal isn't all that good. Better deals get posted all the time. You don't need to settle for a TN panel.

Yup; if you'd not seen it, I'm not in favor of the slower Ryzen setup here. I note it's $330, but I agree your point: wait for sales; the Ryzen here isn't a good deal.

We're going in a circle here; that's the one I was referring to when I made my original comments. Please see the whole thread for context. The display on that is known to be bad.

Even given that, yes, that $200 machine (now that it's available again - thanks BestBuy!) is what I would recommend for most people, if they can accept the screen.
