Are those stories of fakes purely anecdotal? Or is this a legit worry at either retailer when not buying from 3rd parties?

Speaking of quality, it seems like my pro 3's are not held tightly by the magnets in the case. Not like they'll fall out but it feels a lot less premium than my pro 1's.

I got them from Best Buy. Did i get a defective set or thats just how it is?

Got them during BF for 220$ - I just chatted with CS and although they dont price match I got a nice representative who refunded me the difference so I don't have to return and repurchase. Now there are a lot of CS that promise a partial refund etc...and it doesn't end up coming through - so will update comment if it doesn't. Hopefully Amazon can be a little more flexible - it feels apple through a lot retailers is not playing it right post BF purchases on prices especially on Apple Watches and AirPods etc...

Buying from Amazon it is a legit concern even if the item is shipped and sold by Amazon. If Amazon oversells the product they have on hand they will ship 3rd party items of the same sku and pay the 3rd party. So it is possible you get sent an item from a 3rd party even if buying items shipped and sold by Amazon.
