A very common use for these are to save you from getting a ticket when cities drop the speed limit from 80 to 40 for a few hundred feet, such as at the bottom of a hill to fatten up revenue.

Save $656 by not driving like a maniac. The Supreme Court needs to ban these things
I don't "speed" often (destroys mpg efficiency) and even then is typically 4-7 over. All of this is the well within the normal flow of traffic. Radar detector helps remind me to mind my speed and protect against the small chance that a cop may decide to penalize even a marginal speed overage.

Not everyone using one of these is the maniac going 20mph faster than everyone else, weaving in and out of traffic, though if a ban on these would prevent those dudes, then by all means bring it on.

Would this be a major or marginal upgrade over my $27 detector from Temu that says "Caution...KA Band" on every detection ...in a super cute Chinese woman's voice?

Meh, pre-paid legal services that turns every speeding ticket to a non-moving violation is the best way to go.

Saying the Supreme Court should ban radar detectors to stop speeding is like saying we should ban guns to stop shootings. You're going after the tool instead of the behavior. If someone is really 'driving like a maniac,' a missing radar detector isn't going to turn them into a safe driver.
There are versions of these devices that not only inform you when it detects a radar signal, but it can actively jam the radar by producing it's own signal. Cops have gotten wise to this so there are newer ones that will temporarily disrupt the reader without causing it to register a jam, and it allows you to slow down, giving you the additional time to reduce speed before it lets the cop get a reading on you that by that point is legal speed

You're thinking of laser jammers, which only work again laser. Radar jammers are illegal and will get you in trouble with the FCC.
