This Anova Mini Lite is a low cost way to try sous vide and get basic temperature control for home cooking. The free Bluetooth app can start and run the cooker from a phone, and the subscription is tied to WiFi access and extra features rather than basic use. The main drawbacks are the lack of physical buttons and reports that app connection and monitoring can be unreliable. It is a simple starter pick if app based control is acceptable.
The cooker can be started and run using the free Bluetooth app from a phone.
The low $20 price can make sous vide easier to try without a large upfront commitment.
Anova has reversed its earlier plan to stop mobile app support for older devices, according to a company blog update.
The app-based remote control can require a paid subscription for WiFi access and additional features.
The unit may lack physical buttons for backup operation when app control is unavailable.
The deal may feel like it has a catch because some buyers consider the subscription requirement a dealbreaker.
Bluetooth pairing and ongoing monitoring through the app can be unreliable, requiring a forget-and-repair workaround.
