It's definitely not easy to use—I've watched multiple YTB videos on how to operate it, but I'm still experiencing the same issue.
Now obviously can't directly compare there but $500-800 for decent machine at home is pretty reasonable in my mind.
The less expensive options are usually less able to replicate commercial coffee quality.
This is a niche market, most folks don't ever buy one and generally the folks that do buy them buy one machine every 5-10years. Hard to make money, thus prices have to reflect low volume sales.
Not sure what your budget is but if you really want espresso at home vs drip, French press or pour over then pay the price for one of these or you will likely be disappointed in the cheaper crap.

If the grind is to coarse the water just goes right through it and pressure will be low, same thing if the tamp is off, uneven or underfilled the water just works its way through to easily to build correct pressure.
When you are done the coffee grounds should come out in a nice puck shape that is not saturated and firm enough that it mostly holds together as you remove it. (it will fall apart a bit but not completely nor be dripping wet)
Most commercial machines are $3k plus. $8-20k is not unheard of and these machines have no grinders included.
