Great machine, only draw back is if you drink a lot of tea or Americono's that require the hot water, it can't outright pour what you need, takes a few seconds to warm up and then it pours for a bit and stops for a bit until it starts again. So it only pours hot water out in about 5 seconds at a time. Not a deal breaker but my next machine I want to be able to upgrade that aspect.

Deal history says this machine was down to $324 in October. And same OP posted. Was it on a reconditioned one? I've never seen it go below $500. Great machine. Breville, at least this year, has really beefed up customer service and machine repair service at reasonable rates. So I've been happy with mine.

The grinder on these things are terrible. Spend $200 on a solid grinder and get a regular espresso machine.

I purchased this machine and have tried extensively to get it working properly, but the espresso pressure is consistently too low. I'm not sure whether this is due to user error or a defect with the machine itself.
It's definitely not easy to use—I've watched multiple YTB videos on how to operate it, but I'm still experiencing the same issue.

Most commercial machines are $3k plus. $8-20k is not unheard of and these machines have no grinders included.
Now obviously can't directly compare there but $500-800 for decent machine at home is pretty reasonable in my mind.
The less expensive options are usually less able to replicate commercial coffee quality.

This is a niche market, most folks don't ever buy one and generally the folks that do buy them buy one machine every 5-10years. Hard to make money, thus prices have to reflect low volume sales.

Not sure what your budget is but if you really want espresso at home vs drip, French press or pour over then pay the price for one of these or you will likely be disappointed in the cheaper crap.

Hard to know from a distance but you have to get the grind really fine and even for espresso and tamp it perfectly - not too packed, just tight enough and very even.
If the grind is to coarse the water just goes right through it and pressure will be low, same thing if the tamp is off, uneven or underfilled the water just works its way through to easily to build correct pressure.
When you are done the coffee grounds should come out in a nice puck shape that is not saturated and firm enough that it mostly holds together as you remove it. (it will fall apart a bit but not completely nor be dripping wet)
