I wish Fidelity would spend more money on their IT department. The website has always been crap and pig slow during busy times. I'm getting the Free offer on the home page, but the link goes to $25 off. I guess I'll have to wait until they fix it.

I would never pay any real money to Intuit or H&R given all their lobbying to keep taxes complicated.

Wait so if I have to do 2 states, the Fidelity ONLINE offer covers State1 & e-file. Then I just have pay the fee for State2 ($45?) which includes the e-file?

For Desktop looks like, have to pay for State1's e-file, then buy State2's download ($45?) AND State2's e-file ($25). Is that your understanding?

Online includes free state and efiling for any number of states, you shouldn't have to pay anything. I wouldn't bother with desktop in your case, since it's exactly as you stated - they'll charge you once to fill out the forms for state #2, and again to efile it.

Thanks! I couldn't find any of this info online anywhere in the way that you presented. Even chatAI got me nowhere. I guess they expect people to just know it somehow.

I think they intentionally create confusion so they can surprise you with extra charges after you've done most of the hard work.

It used to be prior to 2023 that you could have unlimited number of single states with the desktop version by installing it on a different computer and selecting a different state. As soon as they required you to log in an register turbotax before activating, that locked in the one state you chose and could not download a different state without paying extra. I would expect that right now, they are trying to move people to the online version and once people moved over, they will limit the number of states you can download and file unless you pay extra.

No. I got the free offer automatically this yr. I used to get the offer for yrs prior to last yr. When I didn't get the offer last yr, that's when I contacted 800 private client #. A couple of yrs ago, my rep was removed from my acct and was told I needed a rep to get the offer. In my case, I got a rep that had a high enough level of authority to get me qualified for this as most reps don't seem to have this or the knowledge to correct the issue. .
