"Starting March 1, 2009, Michigan will launch a 31 day speeding ticket
frenzy. The state estimates that $9 million dollars will be generated in
speeding tickets, with an additional $3.5 million in revenue for failure to
wear a seatbelt. $1 million will go to pay state troopers overtime. There
will be 47 state troopers on duty at all times patrolling the main
intersections and highways with the highest rates of speeding."

Wow this makes so much sense now, I saw cop cars after cop cars pulling people over yesterday. 3 cops on a 8 mile stretch of a freeway. Then two cops on just a main st through a bunch of towns. Good thing I'm not a speeder... nod
This was in southeast MI as well.

When Leno announced it last night on his show, he said being unemployed was not a requirement, that they would not be asking.

He said if you were tight on funds, underemployed, hadn't been able to go out or take your wife out, etc, due to money issues that you were welcome to get tickets, too.

I do see that some places online it says you will be asked if you are unemployed -
but that is NOT what Jay said last night on the air!

Addendum: Although Leno made it sound like it is open to all who are down & out in the Detroit area,
everything official online says it is for those out of work.

Nice to know. I saw several posts online about it today and they all mentioned being asked and that this was for unemployed people. Thanks for clarifying. I was sleeping during the on air announcement. ZzZZz

I thought you might be interested in knowing about Save Your Savings: A Free Financial Advice and Counseling Session that will take place on Monday, April 13, 2009 from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Social Sciences Building on the University of Michigan-Dearborn campus located at 4901 Evergreen Road, Dearborn, Michigan. Congressman John D. Dingell and I are co-hosting this workshop in collaboration with a group of federal government agencies and local consumer advocacy organizations.

According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), consumers conduct some type of financial transaction requiring an educated decision every day: shopping for a mortgage or auto loan; understanding and reconciling credit card statements and utility bills; choosing savings and retirement plans; comparing health insurance policies; understanding their credit report and how it affects their ability to get credit and at what cost; or simply deciding how to pay for a purchase. Education is undoubtedly the first line of defense for consumers when it comes to protecting themselves from frauds or rip-offs.

Too many Michigan consumers have fallen victim to confusing or crooked financial schemes. We believe it is imperative that the community be armed with information that will help them make sound decisions when it comes to their finances. This free seminar on April 13th will provide information on how to identify and avoid credit and financial fraud, predatory lending, student loan scams, business opportunity fraud, credit card scams, mortgage foreclosure rescue scams and other unscrupulous investment activities. There also will be financial counselors on site to provide free one-on-one advice after the event.

I encourage you to share this information with anyone you believe might benefit. The seminar is free and open to the public. Free parking is available in the parking structure located on Monteith Boulevard on the University of Michigan-Dearborn campus; campus maps and directions can be found at: http://www.umd.umich.edu/maps_directions/ . For more information on the financial literacy seminar, please call my Detroit office at 313-226-6020 or Congressman Dingells Dearborn office at 313-278-2936.

Sincerely,
Carl Levin

Movie trailer for a summer movie coming out.

It was filmed, at least in part, at the Michigan Renaissance Festival near Holly, MI.
