My desktop/laptop are tugged under the desk at the corner. Onboard wifi reception is terrible. A unit like this on the desk with an extension cable dramatically improved my connection stability and speed.

That's a good use case. Though WiFi antenna extension cables are pretty cheap if you don't want to sacrifice a USB port on your desktop: https://a.co/d/2gcrCbw

Thanks for the idea. It works for the desktop but my laptop doesn't have an antenna connector. I also need to shop for a longer cable as I have a height adjustable desk.
