As long as you are not keeping this in your garage, expiration dates on protein powder is not exactly a date that needs to be paid attention to. At least in common sense terms.

I don't think the scientific literature supports EVERY artificial sweetener being harmful for EVERYONE at this time, but the body of research indicating artificial sweeteners being harmful for the gut microbiome has grown over the years. A reasonable, practical position is to avoid these products if you already have gut issues, or to stop if you start having gut issues.

The issue as a whole is less about protein powders and more about metals leeching into plant soils. The article highlighted how vegan based proteins are more impacted. So it's not as though protein powders inherently introduce metals but moreso any food source with a heavy concentration of plant based food sources. Point being, if it is something you are concerned about, it's not just protein powders. Consumer Reports just happened to test protein powders, but it's prevalent in many foods derived from similar sources.
