For anyone curious, Renewed premium means battery life is over 90%, looks like a decent deal, I'm tempted to upgrade one of my phones for the extra storage.

They also have renewed-excellent (battery life over 80%) for $679 but it's a third party seller, not Amazon like OP deal.

I'm curious who has had a 1 TB iPhone and actually has put it to real usage and filled it up. 1 TB does sound nice but so expensive even on the used market. I've had 256 GB since the XS and only managed to fill half of that space by the time I upgraded, and most of that was iTunes music, 81 GB worth. So when I upgraded to the 17 Pro, I also just got the base 256 GB since it was more than enough. There's a possibility that my next iPhone will need to be 512 GB, but also just as good a chance that I could still be fine with another 256 GB iPhone.

Shooting 4K video with ProRes. 1 minute of video is 6 GB

Is that something normal users are doing? Is ProRes a format your average user is using? I find it hard to believe professionals wouldn't have better equipment, better rigs, than an iPhone.

I've seen "pro" YouTubers with large channels going out and shooting with their iPhones to prove it could be done, more a proof of concept than anything when they do it. From what I've seen, it's not just an iPhone, they have the iPhone, a stabilization/handheld rig, as well as an external SSD to capture the ProRes Raw footage for their team of editors. But they never seem to continue using it, always reverting to their better equipment.

You're basically saying there are no average people who are interested in higher quality video?

This or the eBay deal? I don't really need the extra memory. Not necessity

That's the question, do average people actually buy 1 TB iPhones to use ProRes. The usage stats on standard ProRes/ProRes Raw usage isn't great. Any discussion of it that I've come across, it's almost always less than 1% of people who actually tried it, let alone people who actually use it. The average person wants the least amount of friction. For the average person, the default HEVC video the default camera app takes is all they know and will use. The average person isn't buying a 1 TB iPhone because they're recording in standard Apple ProRes. Pros who do use it (and even that's rare) are using ProRes raw, which gives them higher quality and more flexibility, which requires a fast external SSD. There is a hack that allows you to record ProRes raw onto the internal storage of an iPhone, but that's a hack with risks of file corruption/footage loss. If you're a professional, are you taking that risk because you're cheap?

It's more believable if someone were to say to me that people buy the 1 TB because they're rich, and they can, because they want the bragging rights, or because they keep a lot of entertainment stored locally on their iPhone; music, tv/movies/adult stuff. A handful of people using ProRes or ProRes Raw doesn't make it normal/average.

You can still purchase it for 5 dollars more from a third party reseller who has pretty negative reviews, idk which ebay deal you are referring to but at this point ebay might be the better choice.
