Oh man... been scouring Marketplace for a Fender Blues Jr. as my first tube amp but haven't been able to find a good one for a great price. Can anyone chime in if this will scratch my itch?
I have this and it's nice for what it is. But in 2026 I would have a hard time buying a combo amp like this when modelers and DI are so much better for everything except for jamming with your buddies in a garage. And if you don't want to mess with that for practicing at home, there are smaller amps that are less expensive that will still sound good.

I have one and I love it. It delivers great tone and has all the features you'd want. It has a JCM800 preamp so it can do the high gain thing very well. They only con for me is that the cab is pretty small and doesn't fill the room as well as other 12" combo amps do with larger cabs. But for playing at home, you can't beat it for the price.

Modelers are convenient but for many guitarists nothing beats a real amp. Also for $230 or less I don't think you can find anything even remotely comparable to this. It's a killer deal for the price.

Tell that to the 6 heads, 3 4x12s, 2x6" and 1x10 combo in my office 😂
I don't disagree with you though, but modelers are not nearly as fun to play through as tubes IMO 😍

You can pry my Peavey 50/50 classic all tube power amp with the matching Sheffield 4x12 cabinet with the expanded metal grill that I bought in 1992 from my cold dead hands.
Don't get me wrong, I own this amp and I own several other amps including tube amps, modeling amps, etc. This certainly has its place, but it feels like these apps are getting to be more and more niche items for gear collectors than serious tools.

Oh, for sure. If I was playing live, I wouldn't even consider bringing an amp at this point. I'll save my back.

Or buy this and run your Modeler into the FX return with IR Cab turned off. Im doing that with a Joyo Bantamp into the V30 12" and it sounds marvelous.
My son has started playing bass and my old peavy guitar amp has a blown speaker - will this amp work for bass or do I need to get a more bass-specific amp to start off on?

Get a bass amp. This won't have the low end response you'd want for a bass. People will say you'd blow the speaker using a bass through a guitar amp also, though quite unlikely to happen at home practice volume. You could also try picking up a replacement bass speaker that fits in your existing amp. May actually be cheaper and work for both. Guitar through a bass speaker is perfectly fine. It may have a bit less high end depending on the speaker.

Won't have the low end for bass and you could blow speaker. Look for a Fender Rumble 100 (used). Or you can get a powered PA speaker (or FRFR speaker). Look for one with a 12" speaker with as many watts of power as you can afford. Pair that with a cheap Sansamp clone like the Behringer BDi21 or Caline Wine Cellar for the amp simulation and direct output to the PA speaker.
