If shucking, these are barracuda. They are HAMR (laser warning on label) which is not found in normal barracuda line. So, many say these are exos designs but maybe out of spec for exos or ironWolf deployment.

Can anyone confirm they have shucked these and it contains an Exos drive inside the enclosure? I got some of these in 2024 with Exos inside but they were 14tb drives. Great deal if these 26tb's contain Exos drives!

They're always Barracuda at this capacity but there's a lot of debate on /r/datahoarder about whether that actually matters.

I checked through crystal disc info on one of these I bought and it was a barracuda.

Yep. Seems that they are physically Identical to Exos, but unknown if the firmware difference would have any impact on reliability or if the platters for the Exos are binned and come from a higher quality bach yield. I've had 5x of this model/size in a DAS for about eight months, running 24/7. SMART data shows them to be functioning w/o issue, plus I have a backup of everything that would be difficult to replicate, so I'm comfortable in using them over Exos or WD Reds since that would nearly double the cost.

All the "normal" Barracudas over 10TB are HAMR as well.

By all accounts, the 26TB Expansion never contained an Exos. Today, one shouldn't expect to find it in the smaller Expansions either.

serious noob question - is this in theory a good (decent) drive for storing a fairly large (15TB) video collection that will continue to grow? Even if it's a Barracuda on the inside? I understand enterprise-level drives have more durable parts but this is just one guy who has a bunch of ripped DVDs and blu-rays - it's not getting hammered 24/7 by an insurance data department.
With storage looking like it's not really getting any cheaper in the foreseeable future I am wondering if I should bite the barracuda bullet and grab one now. Thanks.

Please explain. Googled understand the technology AI summary didn't state any down falls with HAMR. Appreciate your insight on the topic.

Your scenario is mostly write once and then mostly just read, HAMR drive is perfect for such use case. Set it to spin down after 10 minutes~ish, it will probably be sleeping most of the time, and could out last your house
