Sadly just yesterday it was announced that the FCC has granted Verizon waiver so as of today any purchases moving forward they will no longer have to adhere to the 60-day policy. And there was no restrictions at all as far as I could see I don't know if it's going to be 12 months concurrent or what.

But unless you plan on using visible or straight talk or whatever for 12 months these deals are basically dead in the water now. Or unless you plan on using them as a Wi-Fi only device which I suppose could be practical for these Motorola phones since they have headphone jacks and SD cards.

So I mean you could do worse than a Moto G stylus 2025 as a music player but. ... Just terrible he depressing anti-consumer news again from the current FCC

It's too late as of today Verizon no longer has to do the 60 day unlocking because they were giving away her from the current FCC. I mean I'm sure word will get around on these comments sections but I do wonder what's going to happen to edge cases people that bought a phone a week ago or two weeks ago or whatever. Anecdotally I can say my Moto G Stylus 2025 that I bought in November seems to have been automatically unlocked in the sense that when I switched my infamobile SIM card over it still works. So far anyway.

But boy I mean I bought that maybe 80 days ago. I don't know what happens to people that bought a phone a week ago or yesterday. I don't know if the grandfathering in of the 60 day is the date of purchase or the date of activation or the date of delivery.

The worst part is the FCC didn't give them any restrictions at all so far as I could tell in the judgment. It wasn't like 60 days isn't going to work but no more than 180 days or no more than 120 days. Just a complete placating to the telecom industry.

Some AMEX cards have $20 back on $45 purchase @ StraightTalk
Is it YMVV because some people can see Tracfone instead of StraightTalk?

Actually it was April 1 when they last changed the unlock policy - and it's still up on the website - which is why there's so much confusion right now. Until they post the new policy no one is sure what the unlock requirements are.
You'd think by now VZ would have had it available for customers to read if it went into effect when the waiver was announced - that was several days ago.
Probably working to change their internal policies to match, and finding a good reasonable unlock period. One year would make them longer than AT&T and T-Mobile prepaid so they may not want to make it that long.

Well, it does say "some" AMEX cards, so yes like all AMEX offers, it is YMMV.

I did this a bit ago, was able to get both plans added to a single SIM by slotting a SIM from one phone into both devices. I removed the initial SIM from the 2nd device before powering it on for the first time. Theoretically, this will yield me an unlocked device and a locked device that still needs 60 days of service. However, I did get two useful months of service out of the deal instead of one (if you only had need of one line).

in for a pair. I'll just use them as music players and pokemon go phones Big Grin for the first month and downgrade the service as soon as possible (until I can unlock them).

That's how the telcos play the game. Market the phones as free/cheap, then locks you in to higher cost service to pay for it. Ridiculous that's allowed by the FCC/FTC.
well... it's fine with me.
it's their game and whatever rules they establish we can't change unless... you know when... but i'm digressing....

i was mostly asking to clarify/confirm by the posting author.
the value we specify for the deal should be put in the 'value'/'amount'/whatnot place, not hidden in the title as "+ 1-month plan"...
the deal value should be corrected here to be $145 so that people know the amount they are going to pay eventually, not initially.

You might not need to unlock the phone if using a Verizon MVNO, but there's no guarantee it will work with your specific carrier. I know Visible works.
I see.
I would still suggest to advertise this particular deal as $145 since your are talking about pretty specific case here.
i'm not sure if everybody actually wants a device which only works on wifi or requires some specific SIM (which is also not 146% guaranteed).

FYI about unlocked policy: FCC just changed unlocked policy for Verizon recently and the new rule is 1 year. Yes, no bs at all. No more 60 days.
is it dictated by FCC?
i checked their unlocking policy page and it was still saying '60 days of active service'

FCC just released the new rule a couple days ago. The new rule is Verizon is no longer forced to unlock any handset after 60 days of service. That is bad news for consumers. So buying 2 months of service is no longer guaranteed for straight talk to unlock your phone.
oh... that's a bummer...
but it might be okay (hopefully) until they change their unlocking policy statements...

It was 12 months to unlock for years before Verizon bought the TF brands several years ago and were forced to make it 60 days as part of the purchase.
After the way they treated active customers in April (making unlock policy changes retroactive) I don't think they care about being "reasonable".

I got lucky and got my 2 Straight talk Moto G Stylus 5G 2025 from Nov 2025 just unlocked yesterday. Easier than the ones from Metro PCS. Just turned them on, connected to the web and voila - Unlocked. At this current administration, it doesn't surprise me at all. The most anti-consumer government I've seen in years. All for the billionaires, none for the hard working people.

How much was the 2 stylus in Nov? Was it the same price like this deal? and did you rebrand for the 2nd month or just did bronze plan? Thanks

Yes, the Bronze plan is the cheapest option for the second month.
How do I switch to the Bronze plan?

This a great strategy and I would love to replicate your success. Could you kindly provide a bit more detailed on the steps you took? Besides activating the first phone and removing the initial SIM from the second phone, what else do you need to do to get the second month added to the first phone? Or you just moved the first SIM to the second phone? Which phone ended up being unlocked? Thank you very much!
