I got something like this last time the deal came through. Just as a real-world review for folks considering this:

These things are small. That in itself isn't an issue, but that lack of drawers REALLY sucks for day-to-day use. They just have a door and an empty hole on these things because drawer slider hardware is expensive, and it keeps the price down. But it makes it so it's a real PITA to actually fill/empty your pockets at the beginning/end of the day. If I had to do it again, I would spend a few extra bucks to get a nightstand with drawers.

Other than that, these are fine. They sit on either side of the bed and successfully serve as a place for my lamps to sit.

You make great points. They might be better suited next to a couch or easy chair to stow away a tablet or some books or some snacks rather than a place to empty your pockets for the night.
