This 5070 deal ain't bad at all, especially considering it's Amazon and brand new.
12 GB is fine. 16 will be better 5 years from now but this should do the job till then.
Community Reviews
The ASUS Prime RTX 5070 is being treated as a solid 1440p upgrade, especially for swapping into an existing PC for a big jump over cards like the 2070 Super. It is also described as running cool in normal play, with the ASUS Prime cooler drawing praise for better thermals. The main hesitation is the 12GB of VRAM, which feels tight for some newer games and makes the card less compelling next to 16GB alternatives like the RX 9070 or 9070 XT. Pricing also looks only slightly below MSRP, with several nearby retailers and Micro Center offering similar or lower numbers.
The ASUS PRIME model can stay cooler than the CPU during typical gaming workloads.
The ASUS PRIME model can run cooler in a specific square cutout area after adding a backplate heatsink and thermal padding.
The card can provide a large GPU boost when swapping into an existing PC instead of building a new system.
The 12GB VRAM can be sufficient for 1440p gaming when settings stay within VRAM limits.
The 12GB VRAM can cause crashes in Indiana Jones when using 1440p supreme settings with path tracing enabled.
The 5070 can crash under supreme plus path tracing at 1440p when VRAM usage goes beyond about 12GB.
The deal can be less compelling because 5070 pricing has reportedly hovered around $500 for months.
The 5070 can be a poor value tier at current pricing because 16GB options like the 9070 or 9070 XT may cost only a bit more.

At least with current prices. Once new price norms are set, that could all change.
Right now still on AM4 with a 2070 Super
A couple other considerations. I get 5% cashback with Amazon credit card. So, once you factor cashback and tax, it's only about a $16 price difference. Both have the same return window, but I do like the idea of buying from a local place if I need support.
What do the experts think? Is this worth a little bit more for the build quality and convenience, or am I better off saving a few bucks and buying from a store with a local presence?

Everyone's experiences will be different due to other factors as well. Like room temperature, computer cooling setup and other software/hardware in the computer.
"PCB hotspots reaching up to 107°C. These extreme temperatures, concentrated in the power delivery systems of cards like the RTX 5070 and RTX 5080,"
And if near a Microcenter....

It was a tight fit but it definitely lowered the registered temperatures by 5+ Celsius
