If you are in the Apple ecosystem (iPhone) Just purchase the larger HomePod. You save some good money and get tighter integration with Apple. Plus if you are anyway buying Sonos music fidelity is most likely not your priority anyway ( not that the HomePod sounds worse than the Sonos)

How about the sonos ecosystem is a lot richer and you can use this with subs, you can set this as left and right speakers for home theaters. This is a lot more versatile than a homepod.

You probably know this, but I think when you set these up, they have "loudness" turned on by default. At least that was the case for me. Technically that should be the opposite of mid-heavy, but in my experience that makes them sound more like party speakers and looses detail. I have only one, but I think the sound is amazing for the size and it being a network speaker.
Dont get me wrong. I was a huge Sonos fan and had it all over my house. Until they completely broke the software and also started releasing inferior products worse than their prior generation ones. Also they never went hi-rez, stuck with 16/44, I had a pair of 5s, a pair of 3s, a pair of 1s, connects all over the house, subwoofer, mini-subwoofer, 2 soundbars. But the mess they made of their software turned me off probably forever. It is unacceptable to break the entire sound system for the better part of a year. Thats when I started searching for options. Now they are discounting their stuff in an effort to bring customers back.

Can they work with sonos arc as surrounds? May be it's an overkill?
I use era 100s with arc ultra as surround. Found my era 300s weren't being utilized optimally as surrounds and set them up as a stereo pair in another room.

I got rid of my pair. I found them too mid-fi and not subtle/detailed at all. Replaced it with a cheaper set - pair of Triangle BR02, Wiim Pro, Loxjie A30. Less than $500 and hands down much better sound. Later I added a RSL speedwoofer and for about this same price, fantastic sound in all aspects except convenience. But my system will play everything including 24/192.
This is the way to go but with a Wiim amp instead of a Loxjie amp or go with powered speakers like Q Acoustics M40, Elac Connex, PSB Alpha AM5 or Kef Coda W.

I have a big living room with an arc ultra and 300s as surrounds. Absolutely amazing. I have my arc with 100 surrounds in a smaller family room. Good but noticeable difference between the 300s and 100s.

Wiim Pro let you do whole home audio - aka multiple zones?
Yes, if you own other link play devices and not just Wiim. Audio Pro, Edifier, Arylic and some other brands. You can even group different brands as long as they use Link Play.

Thank you for sharing! I was just looking to get a pair of these for a home that already has full coverage with other Sonos speakers.

I heard about their software problems. Did they ever fix it or still problem today?

The old app was better, hands down, but things mostly work again.
I have a love/hate with Sonos much like whodiini... we're running a mix of WiiM and Sonos in our house, and have for years. (I have some original gen Sonos gear kicking around.)
At this point I use WiiM where I care about sound quality, and Sonos where I want the convenience of their software, mostly for my spouse. (Bathroom, bedrooms, kitchen, places for casual listening.)

But to the deal, the Fives are pretty nice and a pair will sound as good as Sonos can sound (add a sub for real home theater), but for $800 you better really want that software/ecosystem. There are WAY better speaker/amp setups available for that price if you don't care about the software side.

If Sonos would make a $50 puck like the WiiM that I can hang my own speakers off of, I'd put them in every room. But to use your own speakers you need the freaking FIVE HUNDRED DOLLAR Sonos Port. Madness.

Well said, 100% agree. I was sorely dissappointed in the Port. Big downgrade from the Connect in every way - design is worse, sound is worse, price is more.

On the positive side, Sonos has excellent tech support. I would give them a 9 vs a 2 from Wiim. So it depends how tech savvy you are.

I already use lots of WiiM at home. I have a couple of Gen 1 Sonos Play 5's that no longer work with current software. At this point, I'm not sure I care to replace the old ones and get deeper into the ecosystem.
