could one theoretically order the simcard for pickup, phone for shipping, never pick up the simcard, and get the phone for the discounted $70?

Theoretically I think yes. I chose to pick up the phone and the SIM kit at two different stores, but let the SIM kit pickup window expire and got refunded. I'm typing right now on this phone. It's a great deal for 80, sweeter at 70 too.
