Metro is locked to its own network and will not work with T-Mobile. It used to work the other way around, but I recall T-Mobile ended up blocking that as well. Don't count on using this Metro device on T-Mobile or any of its other MVNO until it is unlocked.

no, month to month and you can chose auto pay or not. I use Cricket in Mexico and get 5G in lots of places. At&t has a strong network there, but not in Baja where Telcel is best.
Can one pay only one month plan and wait for 6 months to unlock the phone with Cricket?

I'm reading a couple places online that Moto G Power only has ONE year of OS updates being provided. That's insane. I thought Moto G Stylus with two years was bad enough.

I still have the 2020 G Power, battery life 86% after all these years - charged daily 20-70/80%. Beast of a phone with awesome stereo speakers.
I like the 2020 G Power except the camera!!!

Seconded. If you're using the phone yourself the '24 is going to be better due to the better chip. The design of the '25 is probably subjectively better and just having it be a '25 model will matter if you plan to flip it. In the context of the QVC bundle vs this, you do get 1 year of service with each device on the QVC bundle + the case, which supports the argument that the QVC bundle is better if you plan to use the actual device. It's always a scummy move by Motorola to downgrade their devices year over year, but this is what they're comfortable with doing and YouTubers have called them out on it.It's a low-mid-range phone spec-wise. The 8GB RAM really stands out on devices at this price range. With Samsung you don't get 8GB on carrier variants until you reach the S-series (most prepaid carrier Samsung A series have 6GB or less).
The 2025 Motorola power G has been my daily driver since June. Excellent mid-range phone. Good call quality, can see the screen outdoors in the full sun in the summer, dual stereo speakers that sound very good, camera is fine but it's not a Samsung or an iPhone. Sounds like a good deal.

Are metro cell frequencies reduced then a regular unlocked moto phone? Sometimes phones are deliberately crippled even after unlocked by certain cell companies. Thanks.
Lmao. No they aren't.

do nothing
After receiving the phone, do we have to activate it/pay into a plan? If we have no intention of using it as a phone, and only as a wifi gaming device?

I received the package and the phone came in what appears to be the factory sealed box. There is no affiliated logos like Metro or T-mobile on the box. A simple brown box. Does it come with the sim already installed in the phone? I haven't opened the sealed box yet. Did you guys all receive it like this, not in a prepaid repackaged box?
phones support eSIM won't come w/ pSIM anymore. need WiFi to download eSIM if not already downloaded.

BTW, can you test whether the $55 plan include Prime? google metropcs prime, enter phone number to receive code, if received code, means have Prime, just don't enter code if don't want to link

In case it matters to anyone, the bootloaders of Tmobile/Metro versions of Motorola phones can be unlocked. The Verizon versions such as Total Wireless, Tracfone, Straight Talk, etc can not unlock the bootloader. This of course is different from network/sim unlocking, that still requires the 365 days. Bootloader unlocking would be for anyone interested in rooting or tinkering beyond the normal limits of the OS.

I want to buy this for my son who is already on my plan. If I buy this for $55 with a new number, can I then swap his metro sim in and use it with his original number?

60-days service. So, two months. It is going to change with the latest FCC update allowing VZ to lock these phones for longer. For Total, second month can be made cheaper by using Stay Connected plan which is talk & text only for $10 plus taxes if this is not your primary number.
When does/did latest FCC update for Verizon unlock policy go into effect?
