Fidelity Investments Is Offering $0 TurboTax Online or $5 Desktop Premier (for select account holders)

Fidelity Investments is offering discounts for TurboTax 2025 the online and desktop version. The final price depends on the discount offered by Fidelity based on your account status. The default is for the online version, but I would not recommend the online version if you want to upgrade to Home and Business version.

Instruction:
~ Log into you Fidelity account. https://www.fidelity.com/
~ Scroll down down and look for "Exclusive: Free TurboTax Do It Yourself Premium". Click the green button "Get Started Now".
~ Click on "Claim your discount with TurboTax"
~ Continue on until you get to the page that says "File your taxes free with Do It Yourself Premium". For me, it shows $99 being crossed off and $0* being the price. If you click on "Get Started", it will take you to Intuit login page and will give you the actual price based on the service you select. Since Intuit knows I have Small Business QuickBooks, they automatically selected Small Business online version and wanted to charge me a higher fee (I think it was like $165). It may be $0 for a simple individual filer.

Hack: For those who wants to stick with Home and Business desktop version, do the following:
~ On the page that states "File your taxes free with Do It Yourself Premium", scroll down a little bit and look for the white box that says "Offer details for Fidelity clients" and click on the link that says "TurboTax Premier Desktop download". Continue on and pay the $5 fee. After the payment, download the TurboTax 2025 to you computer and enter the code that was provided when your payment was processed. Login into your TurboTax 2025 software (ignore the offer to upgrade to the online version for free) and click on "Help" on the upper left corner of your TurboTax 2025 screen. Select upgrade. You should see the option to upgrade to Home and Business desktop version for extra $15.

Note: Last year, I started my tax return late. Fidelity removed the free offer link when I tried to look for it in early March. So best to download it now even if you don't intend to start the filing till later.

If this post is helpful, your rep is greatly appreciated. Peace

Where are you guys seeing this? After logging into Fidelity, the default page is "Portfolio Summary" and there are no ads or anything featured if I scroll down, just "Customize layout" button and then all the disclaimers at the bottom

Scroll to the bottom of your Portfolio Summary page and you should see a box in the lower right hand corner with an offer. Mine says "Exclusive: save 25% on TurboTax" because I don't qualify for the offer.

Filing is free. E-filing is not always free. It's the tax preparation that you are paying for if you choose to use any.
The maker of Turbo Tax and H&R lobby against the IRS of making filing tax free for everyone.
IRS was planning on making its own software to make filing tax free and easy.
Filing taxes and preparation should be free for everyone.

I only got the 30% offer. I've got a decent amount of money in a 401k, IRA, and taxable cash management account.

I upgraded my computer from Windows 10 to 11 a few months ago. But when I was installing TurboTax 2025 2 days ago, there was some hiccups during the installation and told me some Windows software were not installed. I clicked to continue and it seems TurboTax 2025 did successfully get installed. But I will probably find out when I start my tax next month.
That's a little odd about the hiccup. But that's good it did eventually install.
Unfortunately, my computer is too old for MS to upgrade from 10 to 11. But I did get an extra year from MS for Windows 10 patches.
I wound up using a mini-PC I bought about 1.5 years ago that has Windows 11 to install TT on. I normally don't to "productive" work on it, but I will have to in this case.

I used to get the free TurboTax until last year, when I was told that they had changed the "free" criteria based on the number of trades you made, or perhaps whether you had funds in a managed account that generated revenue for Fidelity. So even if you have any large sum with them, but do not generate a certain level of profit for them, you are unlikely to get this offer. In other words, those most likely to benefit from the savings are the least likely to receive the offer. On top of that, the 25% (or more) off offer applies to Federal only, so it is less advantageous to those with state returns than other offers available elsewhere.
The weird thing is that number of trades can't be a criteria. They make little on the commission and the spread.
I think you are right about managed accounts, that is where they make lots of money. Whether their stock recommendations win or lose, that management fee keeps rolling on Wink

Oh... one last thing. I notice this year that the TurboTax interface has changed some. I have loss carry forwards and I really could not figure out how much I lost...... and carried forward. This year it is clearly shown in TurboTax., which I found very helpful. I do not have all my information to move forward and complete my return, so I am unsure what else has changed.
Can you pull up your last year's return and look it up? You can also order a prior year return from our friends at the ir s

I think this year they made it much more obvious. At least from what I can tell. I have losses for a few years and last year I needed to look for it, this year it is right up front and bold.

I clicked on the "up to 25%" and received 30% off. Thanks for the heads-up. I love a discount, especially from Turbo Tax.

30% off here and I have over $1M in investments with Fidelity, so not sure who gets this $0 or $5 offer.
Same. I'm well into 7 figures across 4 accounts at Fidelity and no free turbotax. Didn't get it last year either.

If you have 7 figures across 4 accounts than you should have a premier account manager. Talk to your premier account manager about this issue and they should be able to help you out.

If anyone has an extra copy of Premier or lives in the tax free state, I'd like to get a copy. Please PM.
Thanks

P.S. I've heard Deluxe is pretty much the same thing, but I'd rather have no surprises.
