So is this strap-on really going to catch on? I'm a front-pocket guy, but can see an occasional benefit, like when wearing jogging pants or elastic waistbands. However, having the phone slinging around is just asking to have the screen broken or dented from swinging around or getting stuck on things.

Aside from the utility aspects - $40 for a nylon strap? Seriously?? ...yeah, not a chance of trying this until the $5 versions come around.

That it's half price? Yeah, I'm with you, but that's Apple.

At what point we as a society decide that walking around wearing this whether you are a man/woman/other is just weird? To me this is similar to people openly talk about how much they appreciate hentai or grownups going above and beyond to buy pokemon cards.

It's not just a nylon strap, it has magnets and metal in it. What that's worth is up to you, but you can bet the knockoffs will be terrible.

False. Since knock off are excellent. Just look at the watch bands... Some are terrible and some are superior. Either way, this is peak stupidity and undoubtedly it'll be obvious one day

I don't think "we as a society" have decided anything like that. I don't remember getting an email about the topic, or an SMS.

These are very popular in Asian countries. I thought it was rather gimmicky at first, at least for my personal use. But I bought one, and quite like it. It's well made (in Japan). The snaps have great feel (not soft at all, both parts engage very well). Very easy to adjust. STAYS at the adjusted length. The snaps are also easy enough to open / remove.

I don't like keeping my phone in any pants pockets. I'd rather keep it somewhat away from my body, so I usually carry it one hand. This strap doesn't keep the phone as far away as holding it, but it's better than having it in a pocket. And it frees up a hand. Now that we have a child, I use this when we're out for walks. It's easy to pull the phone up to check it, and easy to put it back down and let it dangle. I don't use it every time I leave the house. But it is very useful if we're going to be out for the day, doing a lot of walking, especially with the kiddo, stroller, etc.

For what it's worth, I'm an almost 43 year old white male. Born in a European country to an American mother, but have lived in the US for ~31 of my ~43 years. The rest in 4 other countries. All that to say that I'm much more "American" than I am "European". I would assume these are more popular with women. For me, if something is practical then I'm going to wear it / use it. I care nothing of what other people think about how it looks.

You might try one of these and you might change your mind. Or maybe not, and that's OK. Just offering a different perspective.

Edited to add: I'm not one of these people who thinks "Bahhh just let people be, it's fine". For example: In my experience people dress like slobs in this country. That's a fact. And sure, "beauty" is subjective. But holy f*ck. Socks and sandals? Baggy/faded/stained clothes? Someone's @ss crack or hairy arm pits showing in the supermarket? Wearing a f*cking cowbow hat or baseball cap indoors, and even sitting at a restaurant table? Absolute clown show. Embarrassing. So I'm not beyond having "As a society" opinions. But in the case of this phone strap, function comes before form. It's pretty much 100% functional. There's nothing (other than the color) that isn't related to HOW the thing does its job. Again other than the color, there's no "fashion statement" or anything "extra" about it. It's the same as a belt/waist phone holder. Job is to hold the phone in a particular place or way, and that's all it does. Unlike certain Adidas and Nike shoes "inspired" by certain rappers or basketball players that beyond having their function have absolutely heinous form.

I don't get this, but this is exactly why we have free markets. IMO either just get a smaller iPhone or buy a bigger Apple Watch.
