No need to trust anyone else, just trust yourself.
Do a network scan like wireshark and check your firewall. There is 0 network activity from switches like this.

Have it, won't recommend it. Unless you don't mind lower speeds

8 ports are bigger and more expensive

has it ever been determined by a reputable source whether or not tp-link products are a security risk?
No more of a security risk that other popular brands.

example i can give, i run ethernet from the main router to various rooms in the house that have wallplates. if you wanted to hook up multiple devices in say the living room specifically this would be a cheap way to turn that 1 ethernet plug in that room into 3 where 8 ports would just be overkill for that 1 room for sure.
Except this turns the 1 port into 4 ports, not 3.

That one is unmanaged, which won't support cases like VLAN

Hooked up and running!

Looks and feels like a plastic electronic learning toy module! Very very small and no visible vent slots.

It might be energy efficient but please get one with a metal slotted case since most of these do not have a cooling fan.

Keeping it to remind me that reading is fundamental in all things in life.

That's the advantage of these... small, cheap, low power, very lightweight... perfect for some network endpoints.

Its like saying "why not just buy a 24 port?" They have different use cases. A single switch with more ports might be useful if you actually need them. In most residential settings, that could be your basement where all the lines are. But likewise, most run a single line to each room and these are a cheap way to get a little more connectivity in each room.

Nope! This is for expanding wired network connections. You can ask Rufus these kinds of questions.
