Last time I saw one of these threads, the GLinet routers still seemed much better to get despite the price.

This has been a fantastic travel router for me. Much easier for hotel portals than my older router that required connecting with another device and then cloning the MAC to the router. Takes a minute to get all connected through the app but then no issues after that.

This was my experience on RC cruise as well. TP link worked like a champ while we couldn't get my brother's Beryl router to work. I had it on Battery power too via usb-c and used it in different parts of the ship.

Set it up with the same SSID and password as your home network so when you're in a hotel, traveling, whatever... you don't need to log in through the captive portal on every device. You just do that once and then your other devices auto-connect to the travel router. You can also tether a phone to the travel router and then all your devices share the same connection.

Some of the brands (Ubiquiti Unify) allows you to even establish a VPN to your home network and route all traffic through that.

hotels, airlines, and cruise ships often make you pay for premium wifi per device. if you connect your travel router as the 1 device, then you can extend that connection to as many other devices as you want without paying for each additional device. you also get the ability to tunnel your connection through a vpn and dns filter like adguard home if configured properly in the router (presuming the router you use supports those features).

It seems to be mixed results whenever I read other user reviews and troubleshooting steps to get a GL-iNet router working on a cruise ship. People were suggesting that it's more user error than the device.

Product page on Amazon says "Please note this model does not support Openwrt" at the bottom. All the TP-Link travel routers include the same message.
