It's an odd product but I am very tempted. I have an induction stove top and I ended up dropping something that hit the edge and created a chip. That chip grew into a crack across the entire left side and I had to pay ~$300 to get the part to fix it myself. In theory this could help prevent that in the future if I can make myself put it into place religiously.

Seems very niche. I feel like this would just eat up a ton of counterspace whenever you need to cook

I made one of these from the Butcher Block scraps left over from my counter. I left about a 1/2" gap between the wood and the burner grates.

After 5 or so years, none of my crazy friends have tried to turn the gas on beneath. Even if they did, I have smoke alarms that would go off before the wood actually hit the ignition point. If your friends are crazier than mine, pull the knobs off the stove before they come over.

I also use this as a bread proofing board that I set across the arms of a chair. Gives me some extra room during the baking holidays.

More likely it ends up BEING the counter top and is too much of as hassle to clear so you never cook

This was misrepresented in the description. The handles are not reversible due to countersunk screw holes are on one side only.
