I ported a phone # to Metro last week, activated and had problems with incoming calls, called Metro support and they fixed it, after they fixed it, the agent offered me the tablet for $20, so I was able to get the tablet the day I activated my phone, no need to wait 30 days.

This tablet is underpowered with only 4GB RAM. However, I installed a bunch of emulators on it. They are RetroArch, PPSSPP, Redream, Dolphin, Citra MMJ, Duckstation, AetherSX2, Vita3K, M64Plus FZ, MelonDS and Yuzu.

RetoArch from the Playstore is a very old version. Get it from the RetroArch website.
Yuzu can play some of the lightweight Switch games.
RetroArch can run thousands of arcade roms including CAVE SHMUPS.
Get the Citra MMJ version.

Now this is what I'm talking about, an old school slick deal full of information about how to get the most out of it and making a detailed case for itself. Bravo.

Not true, a friend first ordered a moto phone deal and was allowed to purchase the tablet after 24hrs of activation of the original moto phone line for $65.
Don't add to the confusion, that's not what I'm saying. The requirements that are online are very clear about the offer being for existing customers, not the tablet line needing to be open for 30+ days. Yes, many are being allowed to purchase the tablet online after setting up a new line. Read my other posts before trying to single out something we already know. You might as well be astroturfing for Metro with that misunderstanding.

Follow-up after cancelling the tablet line. The phone reps do misrepresent the requirement and state they get an "error" if they try to cancel the line before it has been 30 days. Even after escalation, which required 30 minutes on hold, that rep attempted to claim this was the terms & conditions. I advised of the actual terms & conditions only requiring an existing customer with an account for 30+ days, and that this was a formal request, which is also going to result in a formal complaint. Only then did the escalation rep quickly process the line cancellation. I'm still calling this one a deal, but buyer beware, they're going to try to fraudulently get you for 2 months service, unless you are firm.

And unless you have autopay set, why even bother cancelling the line? Just curious why even bother... seems like it just adds extra pain.

If you're an actual existing customer, like me, who wants to keep my account, my existing number, and my phone active, good luck on any of that working out if you don't cancel the line. They 100% will leave you without service if you just pay minus the tablet line. I think you're only considering the case of someone just opening an account to get the tablet and a limited use locked phone, without continuing the service.

Ok. Thoroughly confused now. Do you need to pay for one month of service or 2 for getting unlocked after a year from activate date? Assuming you purchased online.

True. I was thinking primarily of those who don't wish to continue service, or I assumed the tablet service was separate from the other devices -- so it'd fall off regardless. But yeah, when I think on it more, they likely just mingle all devices together and you'd get an extra bill.

Is activating the tablet a requirement? I went into my account and it doesn't show the tablet. I'm wondering if it would only show after activating

For those who received the tablet, any tips on getting color accuracy a bit better? I see an eye care area with a slider for color temp, but it's not the greatest. Out of the box the tablet seems too blue.

Not sure what I expected for the cost, but right now my 8 year old ipad and 7" Fire HDX (like 13 years old now!) produce better streaming images. This tablet is larger, and fine for the price, but not sure what tablets it can beat display-wise -- guess $40 fire tablets I suppose.

It only shows after activation. Given how half baked Metro is, what happens if you do not activate is up in the air. Maybe they still add the line to your account for the next cycle billing, maybe not. Without activation, the 365 day counter for carrier unlock never starts, in the unlikely chance that matters to you.

The color temp will vary depending on literally what panel they had on hand that day. Not even Samsung is consistent, and they manufacture their own panels. Mine is side by side the same as several of my other "newer" ones, latest Fire HD 10, Fire 7, etc.

The Amazon fire 10 from 2021 that I'm trying to replace has a pretty good screen. For some reason it randomly slows to a crawl even with no apps open and no background processes. That and the battery seems to be starting to bulge and I'm worried it's going to burn my house down.

I never owned the 'normal' Fires, mine is the HDX model that came out when Amazon first wanted to compete with Apple. So they made their first batch of tablets more high-end. That didn't last very long, maybe 2 years, and instead they then veered towards the budget market.

My 7" has a ppi of like 320 or so, which is higher than some devices even now (including this samsung). Unfortunately Amazon sort of forgot these and left the OS on an ancient version with no upgrades ... so mine is fine for streaming Prime or youtube and running some older apps. But it can't run a lot of newer apps (I mean technically it may be able to, but OS is too old)...and some sites don't work so well. Still, it's nice for what it is.

I'm guessing the 10" Fires use pretty much the same screen as the Galaxy Tab we have here. The Galaxy is fine for the price, just that I find the color a bit off on mine ... again, too blue.... and it's not as crisp as my older tablets (to be expected, as ppi is lower).

I can't see anyone spending like $150+ on these things though... about $50 seems like it should be their normal price.

And hopefully your Fire tablet doesn't take its name too literally and burn up there...

You just got an agent who didn't want to process the cancel.
You can always call back, or as noted in the OP just port out the line or if you don't care about the phone number and just want the deal...just don't pay.
Metro is prepaid. There's no contract. There is no penalty for not paying the bill. Metro just stops providing service.
That's only true if you try to use it out of the box. If you disable the options listed in the OP the tablet is quite usable. The majority of the slowdown comes from trying to use virtual memory. Once you disable that the tablet is plenty usable, even on 4GB of RAM. It's when the system tries to use the slower storage as RAM that you get issues.
Answer is in the OP.
I've run Dreamcast games on it. A quick search online shows people running GameCube games.

You need to activate the phone first, as mentioned in the OP.
Answer is in the OP.
is metro always prepaid? you can always effectively cancel your lines by not paying them?

Are you aware that you are running Android 4 and we are on Android 16? Also, screens have gotten a lot brighter.

But seriously how does the HDX even function. I have a 8.9 Fire HD from '12 that I never traded up like the others, and it literally does nothing. Amazon disabled access to Prime Video, Kindle, even the browser no longer works.
