Go in knowing the 12V battery is different than the 20/60V battery standard.

Dewalt's 12v line doesn't have a ton in it, but everything I've used has been great. Plenty powerful, sips on batteries, and the tools are smaller and more convenient to use than their 20v counterparts (they still fit the hand well while handling better in awkward spaces.) I've used this screwdriver more of less daily for a few years and if it died I'd buy another.

I own this drill, it's fantastic! And this deal is great. What I paid a year ago. I would buy another but I have way too many drills

I've heard decent things about their 12V line, but ToolGuyd has given me the impression that DeWalt has largely orphaned the line. That is, they haven't discontinued it, but they're putting little to nothing into R&D, choosing instead to push Atomic as their compact line.

Pretty much any 20v charger can also charge the 12v batteries though, which is nice. I think M12 just makes way more sense in this form factor and thus have only bought M12 compact tools despite owning Dewalt 20/60v stuff but there was some temptation to stick with Dewalt 12v due to the shared charger. I think Dewalt has never taken this line seriously enough to invest in it either though, it's always been a but of an afterthought compared to M12/M18 as a system for example.

It's true. The line is pretty much dead in the water as of now. The atomic line of 20v tools are only marginally bigger when you use them with the 1.7ah power stack batteries. So there's really no point in getting 12v IMO.

That said... this 12v Screw driver and the 12v sealed head 1/4 &3/8 ratchet are the must haves in the 12v line. The other tools in the line are fine but i feel over all if want to expand in the same battery platform you do better staying with 20v.

This Screw driver is great for around the house and using as an assembly tool. It has a low RPM and lets you control it even more with the variable trigger and Its very lightweight and small.

Outside of this screwdriver and ratchet stick to the 20v line or get m12 for more compact tools.

Just my opinion any who.

If it is 18v screw driver, it will be too big and heavy, might as well stick to your 18 v impact driver like their dcf 850,860, or 870.

Picked up the drill, 3/8 impact, and impact driver all for great prices over the past 3-4 years and 9 times out of ten choose them over my 18 volt tools. Plenty of power but still small enough to get into tight places and light enough to work overhead without tiring out too quick.
Having said that, I still wish I'd gone with the 12v Milwaukee... Like others have said, the DeWalt 12v isn't expanding and I've found the tools they do have rarely go on sale, if ever these days. Milwaukee goes on sale reliably around the holidays and continues to get new tools.

I have one of the old DeWalt 8v gyroscopic screwdrivers. I love it for the precision and the clutch that prevents you from overtightening screws into plastic and thin sheet metal. It is the only 8v tool I own, but I still use it because it is the best tool for certain jobs. A couple weeks ago I discovered that the 8v line had been discontinued. That doesn't make me love my 8v screwdriver any less. In fact, that makes some people love these discontinued screwdrivers even more. They have a cult following online, and often sell for double their original price. Don't worry too much about the future of the 12v line of tools, just pick a tool that is best for the job.

I bought the DeWalt 12v screwdriver a couple weeks ago at Lowes for $99. I don't own any other 12v tools, and I may not buy any more 12v tools. But this particular DeWalt DCF601 12v screwdriver is smaller than any other DeWalt drill/driver with a clutch. So in a choice that came down to the DeWalt 4v screwdriver and the DeWalt DCF601 12v screwdriver, I chose this 12v one.

My most used driver. Nice and light. I have 3 impact drivers, 4 drills of all sizes, the 20v dewalt joist drill, etc.
The handle is much nicer than the Milwaukee 12v tools. I have had several of the Milwaukee batteries separate and break with the top half inside the tool. Sold all of them years ago. The slide style battery is better.
For very fine work, it is perfect. If I need more power, the 12v impact is nearby in the tool bag. The 20v impact and Impact wrenches are in the truck. The screw driver is the first out.
If i need a bunch of screws installed somewhere, I just have the apprentice do it

I have some of the 12v impacts that I got cheap. super impressed that they can actually remove lug nuts with some extra oooga-duugas, they are lightweight small and I just threw one in each of my cars with a makita socket set just cause.

I wish the batteries went on sale, but whateverrrr.

I bought my second one these when it went on sale. I'm no power tool power user, but this thing is light and handy for many situations. Its my first choice for any powered screw driving

How is this a slickdeal when the Milwaukee m12 screwdriver can be had for 50 bucks?
