Another benefit of this type of mouse is you don't need a full table to use it with a laptop, you can set it next to you or on your thigh when using a laptop on the go.

this type of mouse reversed my plantar fasciitis. yes it takes quite a while to get used to it, but I would not use any other type (tried verticals etc)

I always have used these, for gaming, everyday use, ever since the late 90's. It takes getting used to, especially if all you use is a normal mouse. I never had wrist issues thanks to this type of mouse. But the left clicker eventually will start to go bad and do double clicks after about 2 years or so, at least that was my experience. 3 years ago I bought the 100.00 rechargeable version and its been great, havnt had any left clicker issues as of yet. Charge lasts a long time, only thing that sucks is the rare times you need to recharge you need to plug it in like a phone charger to keep using it till it recharges.

this is the one I bought, Logitech MX Ergo S.

Ive got an M570 that ive owned for 15 years and has been absolutely abused by 2 toddlers. It works as good as the day i bought it. Of course Logitech was a better manufacturer back then but I wouldnt hesitate to recommend one of these. One of their better products to be honest.

Using a mouse (you do operate this with your hand, right?) relieved your foot pain? Let's collaborate on your next JAMA aubmission! Potentially groudbreaking treatment!

Been using these for about 10 years, and it's been amazing. I had really bad wrist pain using regular mice, and the trackball completely alleviated that.

A few notes on this specific model as someone who has used trackballs for this century:

The S model (the only one you can buy now) has very quiet switches. But also they're VERY soft. The weight of my finger on them often clicks by mistake even after using them for months.

The Bolt connector in these newer ones (also the only one you can buy now) was changed for "security reasons" but also has the added benefit of interfering with other bluetooth devices, in my case a keyboard.

I can confirm that you've used these a lot because of the mention of the double click issue. They haven't fixed this in multiple model releases.

Sadly, the $100 Ergo MX or whatever it's called still has the issue. I've had 2 go bad. I'm currently using #3 and #4 at two different workstations - I like them a bit better than these cheaper models, but I use them a LOT.

I started using these in the late 90s too. Back when they were much flatter, corded, and beige. 2 months into college and I started having wrist problems from mouse usage (I swear it was from mouse usage!!!). Switching to a trackball mouse quickly solved the problem.
The fix for the left click issue is to replace the microswitches with Omron 100M click ones. Not sure if he's still out there but there was a guy who did M570s in bulk and sold them if you don't have the soldering skills to do it yourself.

I bought this during the Thanksgiving sale (used for $26) for this same reason and returned it. This thing is massive. Inconvenient to carry and then it takes too much space on the seat (I used it when riding a train during my commute). I am still trying to find a smaller alternative.
These look to be smaller, no idea how good: https://www.amazon.com/ELECOM-Blu...B08GSCC8RX

I used to use the M575 at home and work but I had issues with the left click breaking after a lot of use so I went with the Logitech MX Ergo S Advanced and haven't looked back, a little more expensive but lasts for ever.

I had a different one before I got this one. The last one has maybe a sensor failure as it wasn't really responding to the ball tracking. I used it daily for work. Getting this one seems to be better as the design for the ball is a bit different and the sensor is also look different.

I have another one from amazon basic that just don't feel right at all.

How's the MX Ergo different then this? Can it really justify the 1.5x cost then this?

This mouse is my daily driver. I am in for one as my backup. There are great maintenance videos on YouTube which I have used to fix one that was giving me click issues after many many years of use.

If you are on the computer for 15 minutes a day it's not worth the price. If you use a computer for hours a day it is unless you have small hands. MX Ergo is larger and is better for medium to large sized hands. It also has a tilt angle that can put your forearm in a better ergonomic posture.

I will never purchase a Logitech Trackball again. Have 4 or 5 in my computer graveyard. Bought the Nulea Trackball from Amazon and couldn't be a happier camper. Just IMO. Model M501 currently $30.99 with coupon offer.

for what's worth, i am returning the M575S after 5 second of usage.

I thought it would be similar to the MX Ergo (since my MX Ergo still uses micro B which is a PIA to charge when needed). but it falls in many areas.
for starter: there is no tilt adjustment like MX Ergo, so you stuck in the "flat" profile. it also doesn't have quick dpi adjustment button for you do fine movements where you need to pixel level movement. it also feels... incredibly cheaply built.
