These don't have any buttons and require the App to use. It's free, but it's a little annoying to have to pull out my phone every time I use it. That said, I use mine at least 2-3 times per week. Mine has worked flawlessly since I got it about 6 months ago. I've definitely gotten my $20 out of it.

Nothing really to be said that hasnt been said before in the numerous times this gets posted (exclusively by staff). No physical controls, app control is free (for now). No guarantee that will persist.

That's not steaks, that's roast beef, 165F is way too much heat especially for that cook time. Restaurants will usually keep their steaks at 120-130F so they can slap it on a searing grill, pull it just after it gets marks for rare and in under 1 minute for medium rare. The general answer for home users is 3-4 hours @129-135F for a ribeye or strip, once you've reached a four hour cook time at those temps it's starting to really break down connective tissue, keep going and it shreds rather than having a tender but still steak-like chew.

I love sous vides. This is a good size. The subscription model is kind of lame. I had an earlier version that included the WiFi connection

Yes really. It is how restaurants prepare their steaks. They can stay in the sous vide pot without risk of overcooking until it is time to finish them. When we are having steaks I'll start them at 9am and they'll be great at 6pm. BUY IT NOW!
His point was that 165 would be better for chicken thigh than steak. I don't have this, but I would guess 120 degrees so you end up with 130-135 medium rare after searing.

Appreciate the detailed response. Sounds like a much better alternative to reverse searing (low temp in oven with a meat thermometer, and then quick sear both sides.)The only issue is my wife has been going nuts about health stuff and would not want to boil food in plastic. Already tossed out my awesome Ovo non-stick pans and anything teflon coated. Won't even let me put plastics in dishwasher.
You're not boiling though. You're cooking at 130 °F. Still in plastic, so still not perfect, but much lower temperatures.

I had an Annova from like 6 years ago. Lasted me about 5 years... for $20 for perfect steak, ultra-tender moist chicken (can do at 145F and still be pasteurized for extra long storage in the fridge) this is a no-brainer. Would be great gifts for friends or family who like to cook or like good food.

Bought it last time it was $20 - great device for the price. Sure you have to use an app, but it's set and forget, so I don't mind 3-4 taps on my phone. Otherwise - works fine, temp control is perfect, no issues whatsoever. Been using it couple of times a week for fish/beef, marinated chicken breast turns out pretty great too.

No subscription required.

No controls or display on the device, so phone app is required to connect via Bluetooth.

Pros: Cheap introduction to sous vide. (1/2 the cost of the next cheapest cooker.)
Cons: No display/controls. App control only.

App only kind of sucks but I have the older version with buttons and it's a life changer. Unless I grill or smoke I sous vide all meat other than ground stuff like sausage and burgers. I buy chicken tenders in bulk at Costco and prep them in vacuum bags before freezing. Then I throw a bag or two in the sous vide every week for general use (salads, wraps, burritos, or just to eat). It's great for timing as well since it is very forgiving with how long it can sit in the bath.

I got tired of cooking chicken on the pan every day. Now I prep and toss it in for 1.5 hrs and have dinner for the week, unspoiled, ready to reheat.

Do it at least beep when it gets up to temperature like my old Anova?

Well I guess I have gone this long in life without making any Sous Vide or even knowing what it is so I guess I don't need this Stick Out Tongue:

Wow really? That sounds like a really good use case. I've been trying the reverse searing method of oven at 250 until inside of steak is about 165 and then searing. Mixed results.

Basically sous vide your steak to your desired temp for 1-2 hours. I do 133-138 depending on the cut. Ice bath if desired then sear. It's safe. To kill bacteria is a function of time and heat. The 145 steak USDA guidelines is based on 3 mins at that temperature.

Got mine on the last deal. I've only used it once, but it worked perfectly to cook a steak. The temp matched my thermopro probe exactly.

What on earth does a sous vide cooker do? Seems odd food needs to be in a baggie to be cooked.

Is this a glorified water boiler? Why would I want this over just turning on the stove?

I don't care enough to google this so feel free not to respond.
Man, we really need to do a better job of letting Darwinism run its course.
