There are a lot of people who can't afford a 32gb laptop and they do basic tasks where 16gb is fine for them. I woulnd't call this a dealbreaker or not future-proof since it is highly dependent on the user. For my mom, this would absolutely be fine for at least 3 years. I would be more concerned with the quality since 32gb of ram does you no good if the laptop dies in 2 years.

LOL, what are you people doing where you can't even do basic tasks with 16GB of ram? How many dozens upon dozens of tabs do you have open in Chrome.....all playing videos at the same time? Seriously, 16GB of ram is fine for 90% of office / school type users if don't let your PC get bogged down with bloatware*, 'extensions*,' and / or malicious software*.
*what I think most of the problem is. People either blame the laptop for their misuse or over compensate the specs not realizing they are just countering the overhead of their own, again, misuse.

I do office work. 5 opened pdfs, 1 word document, Firefox with 15 tabs, zoom opened, and I am at 90% of 16Gb of Ram.

Yup, 16GB is fine for over 95% of users.

Amen, my work laptop is 16GB with a i5-1235u and I frequently opening 200+MB PDF's with half a dozen other programs running. Could I use a better PC...likely, will the world end if I don't have 32GB of ram a i9...clearly not.

Now, I'm not saying that higher spec's are mo' better. Just these '16Gb oF RaM In 2026 ShOuLd bE OuTlAwEd' kind of comments appear to be coming from people who couldn't even point to a stick of ram if their life depended on it.

Memory: 16 GB LPDDR5X-8000MT/s (Soldered) - This kind of kills the laptop since you can't upgrade it later. Unfortunate.
What similar laptop you seeing with upgradable ram? Please don't link to a 5 year old computer or $1500+ mobile workstation.

Yup. Not future-proof. Whoever buying this, enjoy for like 18 months or less and need new laptop. Don't fool for the cheap price with rtx 5050. Lenovo knows that 16gb soldered ram is the dealbreaker.

P.S. If you want "future-proof" be prepared to pay or omit the GPU. Champagne tastes on a High Life budget Wink

Also those with 32GB RAM and not using it, which is most of them, are actually wasting money on electricity. All RAM must be constantly powered, even the RAM not being utilized.

Also it has 24GB total memory including 8GB in the RTX 5050. That 8GB is used for a lot more than just games - big difference from 16GB RAM with integrated graphics.

In fact, the graphics card having that 8GB, plus 16GB system RAM, actually makes it faster in almost all cases for gaming than a similar GPU with 4GB or 6GB, plus 32GB system RAM!

That could be true however I doubt (could be wrong) that would even amount to a $1 in additional power costs per year. On the flip side, battery life might be a concern from that standpoint.

More like $3 to $10 and this is Slickdeals, where every dollar counts.
Yes, the reduced battery life is an even bigger concern.

Am I the only one who won't buy a Lenovo because of the broken hinge on my last one?

FWIW, I've had 5 of their 2-in-1's back to back without issue.

IMO most (not saying all) hinge issues seem to follow users, not brands. Open you laptop from the center, not opposing corners, and the hinges normally outlast the average useful life of the machine.

FWIW, I ran this question by ChatGPT (which I'm not claiming to have vetted the answer), it agrees with me; which either suggests I'm as smart as AI....or as dumb it! That difference remains to be seen Wink

Prompt: "How much extra power would a typical laptop consume over the period of a year with an extra 8 gb of ram on an otherwise identical machine? Assuming a standard household use case."

Response: "Here's a simple estimate of the extra power use from adding 8 GB of RAM over one year. Assume typical home use where the additional RAM draws about 2 watts on average and the laptop is used 8 hours per day. The daily extra energy use would be 2 watts × 8 hours = 16 watt-hours per day. Over a full year, that becomes 16 Wh × 365 days = 5,840 watt-hours per year. Converting to kilowatt-hours, 5,840 Wh ÷ 1000 = 5.84 kWh per year. At an electricity cost of $0.15 per kWh, that would cost 5.84 × 0.15 = $0.88 per year. In short, adding 8 GB of RAM would use roughly 6 kWh per year, costing about $1 annually under typical household use."

Memory usage percentage shown in Windows task manager can be misleading because it includes several categories that aren't active usage.

I'm use chat gpt on another system so not going to rewrite everything.
