Absolutely not worth the price. It's an older, entry-level HDMI 2.0 receiver priced close to a modern HDMI 2.1 model. No VRR, no ALLM, no eARC. You can increase a budget for a bit and get a much more modern receiver, or shop for refurbished/used for the same price.

I have an old receiver and am thinking of finally upgrading so I can do 4k through it. What current receivers do you recommend for hdmi 2.1, gaming and high refresh rates are definitely part of the plan on the setup.

Unlikely you have a Time Machine but the TX-SR3100 that has been on sale for $200 and ~220 is great bang for the buck. I've had it a couple years and use it with XBX at 4k, HDR, 120hz and it's great. Its HDMI ports are 2.1a. Helpful review: https://www.avsforum.com/threads/...e.3296606/

Yeah it's old but good. I got one a few years ago for less. It's good for what it is. I have a JAMO set connected to it. I've been happy with it. Should cost less though.

Gamers and armchair shamers that have never tested this thing are the ones poo pooing garbage about it . If you want the best receiver and are going to be nitpicking about software and hardware, you shouldn't be shopping in the $300 range. This model is like a dog. You can beat the hell out of it and it will never give up on you, unlike a lot of the trash out there that will have issues 6 months down the road. If you want something that will last forever, this is the one.

100% agreed. In addition to the usual armchair snobs, there are embedded salesmen with a vested interest in pushing the "you get what you pay for" narrative and sales gimmick.

Unfortunately, we are now living in an age of tariffs and more wars for oil, which means consumers are going to continue getting shafted for the foreseeable future.

I'm not sure if it is eARC or just ARC, but it works just fine on this model. I have been running this since around the time it was released and it is trouble-free, and the settings are very, very intuitive, unlike most AV receivers. I don't think I've even replaced the batteries in the remote yet and I use it every, single, day.

Nope, they are not Pioneer. 😊 Which is a good thing, because Yamaha is basically the Honda/Toyota of receivers---consistently the best long-term reliablity. Room correction nerds will disparage their YPAO compared to Denon's Audyssey or Onkyo's Dirac of course, but who cares. Actual usefulness of room correction is debatable other than with subwoofer room nulls, but many subs nowadays come with their own room correction EQ to take care of that, so you don't need to overspend just to get the "right" (lol) room correction tools.
