At least it looks pretty cool. Also, looks like it's OOS.

Correct. It's OOS now.
I'm looking to buy one for my parents that I can put DD-WRT Merlin on. They're having the T-Mobile TM-AC1900 that Merlin no longer support years ago, but running very stable. Any advice from knowledgable mind?

Seems like a bit much for typical parents and coming from a TM-AC1900. What kind of speeds and configurations are you running? Is Tri-band a requirement? Are you running any VPNs on the router?

On one hand, I think the WiFi 7 routers are too early and MLO support is both a mess and seemingly unnecessary but some people are making a fuss over it. But on the other hand, if all you really need is long term support, I would think upgrading to a more modest WiFi 7 router makes sense over draining $300 for this. Not because its Wi-Fi 7 but purely because its newer.

RT-BE86U may be dual band but I honestly couldn't care less about 6GHz band. I don't even have a a 6GHz supported device personally. RT-BE92U if you really just have to go tri band. I like running Merlin too so these would be your most entry level WiFi 7 routers supporting Merlin.

Thanks. I don't live with my parents, and I'm thinking of the Asus RT-BE92U or GL.net MT-6000 with OpenWrt for them but leaning more on Asus with Merlin.

Its hard for me to give up Merlin at this point but feature wise GL.net has been popping up in my research. You probably couldn't go wrong with either one.
