Can someone explain to me what is the purpose of this subcompact line in the drill and driver? As an owner of the regular drill and driver I'm wondering if I'm missing something. To me these tools are slightly smaller, and also lower powered. Is Rigid trying to fill a lower price point, or do people prefer to trade down in power just to shave a few ounces (literally) or maybe 1/2 or 3/4 inch in size? With my current impact driver for example it already feels small and light.

Just wondering if I would ever actually want to step down and just own this set but I worry about giving up the power. So what is the purpose of this line? Maybe it's for pros who are using the tool all day long and want max comfort?

My opinion only, I've owned my regular drill/driver set for 10 years now. It's helped me with many beefier projects inside and outside the house.It's not about trading down for this subcompact, it's about the subcompact complementing my regular set. There are many interior tasks I've come across where my regular set is just too big and heavy to use efficiently, and the handheld li-ion screw drivers out there are not powerful enough.My subcompact fills this niche nicely. It is significantly lighter but still powerful.Again this is just my experience. Others may vary.

Interesting take. I guess I need to go hold them in hand again at the store but when I did it before I didn't really feel like it was THAT different vs the most recent regular Rigids. Of course if you are comparing the older models or the brushed models yes. I get it in terms of the subcompact impact wrenches where those are truly like 1/3 the physical size. But 85% of the size isn't huge to me

I bought this set about 4 months ago when it was at this same price point. My existing Rigid drill and driver are about 8 years old and this set is significantly lighter. I recently rebuilt a section of a wood fence and that older drill got heavy.

Seriously though I will go check it out just to see. I'm worried about 500 vs 800 inch pounds on the drill but maybe it is fine for normal drilling and only becomes an issue if you're using big spade bits or whatever

Every DIYer has to make the "decision" as to what line of tools (think battery universe) they are going to invest in. About 9 years ago, a huge HD deal became available and I had to bite. The Ridgid brand is kind of an outlier as HD is the only retailer selling it. I believe that this line is the best value of ALL the brands out there for the mainstream DIYer. I have a number of Milwaukee tools but let's be honest ... they are waaaay overpriced.

Buy this kit to start or wait until the BF deals in November where you can get a bunch of tools for cheap. I am up to 14 tools at the moment and cannot find a 15th that I absolutely have to have ...
