Sometimes the little felt washers go on sale for like 99 cents. Stock up when they do because they last basically for the life of the battery. Such an easy preventative measure. Are you referring to the spray protectant?

Mix baking soda + a few drops of water into a paste to neutralize acid and a wire brush (Harbor Freight). You're never going to need this unless you're working on dozens of cars.

Corrosion from weathered terminals is one thing. But if you're neutralizing acid, you've got a battery problem and it needs replaced. There should never be a time you need to clean off acid, reconnect battery terminals, and go on with life.

You're neutralizing the corrosion from the acid releasing hydrogen gas escaping from the battery between the lead terminals and the plastic housing. The felt washers help prevent this. Or a coating of grease.

you can get the Battery Terminal Protectors at Walmart for 0.97 if you don't want to wait for Amazon to temporarily match that price.

Add dielectric grease to clean post and cable, connect and tighten cables and completely cover with more grease. You wont have any more corrosion.

its not conductive though, so you'd just be insulating it?
Seems like just spraying it is less trouble.

One could use baking soda and water to get the same effect. This product alone does not prevent future corrosion. Dielectric grease is conductive enough and can be used on any electrical connection: spark plug boots, wire connectors etc. Why not just keep one inexpensive and long lasting squeeze tube for everything?
