Steps to follow to get the deal:

1. Go to Bestbuy Listing for Motorola Moto G Power 2024 5G 128GB/8GB Blue and choose "We'll help to connect this with carrier".
2. Choose Verizon and then new number (you can also choose to transfer a number but given that you are going to cancel it first thing new number is better).
3. Go through checkout and fill out verizon related info. Note down the account PIN you used as you might need it later during cancellation.
4. You can pick the phone up in the store. After pickup, setup verizon account with the new phone number.
5. Chat with CS to cancel the account. Activation fee is waived if cancelled within 3 days.

Ordered and picked up at front store. Sim was taped to phone. I called Verizon to verify I had no account etc (as I never activated) and it seems I am Scot free. Should I be concerned it was this easy? Had a 10 voucher so was like 20$ out the door

Overall, despite the minor hassle of disputing an unfair $10 fee, I'm very glad I bought this phone for such a low price as it's performed well as my daily driver ever since.

you can just use a different phone to insert the sim which you got with the phone (since its unlocked phone it comes without any sim in it and so they attach the sim card outside the box), make sure to insert the sim in a verizon compatible phone get the phone number, create/signin to account and chat to disconnect, after your placed ordered and bestbuy processed your order that day is the first day of activation. Do on same day if possible or within 3 days to avoid activation charge. for two or 3 days they will estimate $9 some change as prorated charges, that you can call and get it cancelled or just pay it, if you don't have time to deal and explain all the things to Verizon CS.

I have Verizon so the process is easier for me than most. Picked up the phone, they activated it in store, saw the line showed up in my account and cancelled it immediately via chat. Didn't even open the phone yet.
Just be aware that there's about a $7 to $8 tax and fee including a dollar or so for the service itself the first day, so the other poster here is correct, you probably have to chat back to get it waived if you care to.
