I've always wondered if this stuff works or is just snake oil.

I would just stick to Seafoam or Chevron. I bought some a while back because I think I needed a free shipping threshold met or something. Obviously couldn't tell you if it worked.

I've done some simple testing on a couple of stainless steel gas cans that had diesel and gasoline film on. At some point the fuel leaves a film. I've wiped some fuel injector cleaner on a rag and the fuel film wiped right off the stainless steel. Not saying this mimics what's going on in an engine, but I definitely believe it's more than snake oil.

Seafoam is rated the worst and pte is the only way to go but imo even all that is snake oil on modern vehicles that use gas from big companies that have additives in them

Seafoam doesn't contain the proper cleaner. Was designed for 2-stroke engines.

Based on high-concentration, professional-grade fuel system cleaners, Red Line SI-1, Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus, and Royal Purple Max-Atomizer are widely regarded as having the highest concentrations of Poly Ether Amine (PEA) for removing stubborn, baked-on carbon deposits. Other top contenders include Gumout Regane High Mileage and BG 44K.
Top PEA Products:
Red Line SI-1 Complete Fuel System Cleaner: Often cited for a high-percentage PEA formula for deep cleaning.
Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus: Uses the patented Techron technology developed by Chevron.
Royal Purple Max-Atomizer: Highly concentrated for Direct Injection (GDI) engines.
Gumout Regane: Known for containing high levels of PEA at a accessible price point.

For DI sure, but it has routinely demonstrated efficacy for port injected engines. If anything something that works with engines made to run an oil and gas mixture would be just fine for a port injected engine. Keep downvoting me you fools.
