These would be better, if they had a quick lace system.

The Free Hiker 2.0 came in both GTX (Gore-Tex), and 'normal' versions that were not waterproofed. Example of the latter:

https://www.sierra.com/item~p~7pr...iewSection

Both versions, however, used the "Boost" midsole that makes them so comfortable (and which is not used in the lower-tier sorta-lookalikes such as the Anylander).

I have both the low and mid versions of the GTX, love them, have also used them for traveling. One other thing I really like about the GTX is, the Gore-Tex makes them very easy to clean and keep looking new.

FWIW, you can get this same shoe from the OP in a different color, also from adidas through their ebay store, for $52.80 with the current coupon active there:

It is all nice that you point out the mid sole comfort, I also have these and they are really easy to clean (gore-tex)... but you link everyone to a model that does not have any gore-tex but a cheaper water proof protection... and I say cheaper cause that is what Adidas says.

Regarding comfort... yes, they are good. But not as comfortable as a squishy shoe like https://slickdeals.net/f/19112065-adidas-men-s-adizero-aruku-shoes-core-black-cloud-white-grey-one-32-8?v=1&src=SiteSearch

Per Adidas... While GORE-TEX remains their premium waterproofing for high-performance hiking and trail running, you will also see RAIN.RDY and Climaproof used on their more entry-level or lifestyle-focused outdoor gear.

In the world of outdoor gear, RAIN.RDY (an adidas technology) is generally considered waterproof, but there are some nuances to how it works compared to other materials.

Here is the breakdown of what that label actually tells you:
1. Waterproof vs. Water-Resistant

RAIN.RDY is designed to be fully waterproof. Unlike "Water-Repellent" (Shed.Rdy) which only beads off light mist, RAIN.RDY uses a laminated membrane and taped seams to prevent water from penetrating the fabric even during heavy downpours.
2. How it Works

The tech relies on two main layers:

The Membrane: A microscopic barrier that is "breathable." The holes are small enough to block liquid water droplets from coming in, but large enough to let sweat vapor escape.

The DWR Coating: The outer shell usually has a Durable Water Repellent finish to prevent the surface fabric from getting "soaked out" or feeling heavy.

3. Comparison to Gore-Tex

While Gore-Tex is the industry gold standard for extreme durability and breathability, RAIN.RDY is a proprietary alternative.

RAIN.RDY is excellent for casual rain, hiking, and golf.

Gore-Tex typically handles higher "water column" pressure (think hurricane-level rain or sitting in wet snow for hours) slightly better.

4. Maintenance Tip

If you notice water is no longer beading on the surface of your gear, the waterproof membrane is likely still fine, but the outer DWR coating has worn off. You can usually restore this by washing it with a technical cleaner (like Nikwax) or giving it a quick tumble in the dryer on low heat to reactivate the coating.

I have Terrex Freehiker 2.0 (I think), and love them. The grip is crazy and they are flexible but supportive. I've had a few foot plants that could have gone wrong but the Terrex saved my ankles.

I have 3 pairs of free hiker goretex, it looks bad ass. Quality is top notch. Terrex is steal of outdoor gears, always on sale and most of them are high quality.

Never had shoes with a midsole drop before, and I have flat feet. Wondering how comfortable they'd be.
OK... so these shoes are VERY comfortable.

I also got a VERY HIGH foam running shoe and while it was just as comfortable... the high foam was very squishy, and was the most comfortable shoe I have ever walked on. BUT these are not bad, I have never experienced pain wearing them.

I will also add that there seems to be plenty of room... I'm a 10.5 wide, so I purchased a 11 and it worked for me very well.

I've heard from another thread that Adidas actually makes good boots? Does anyone have experience with them?
I buy their gortex boots for work and really like them. Gortex for the price point of 100 bucks is a solid deal.

I have the Terrex Unity's and they are awesome. Very comfortable, I used them for the winter snow and they held up great and kept my feet dry.

I'm in for a pair. The blue ones look nice. I have never had waterproof shoes. I'll pair these with some merino socks, thus stop abusing my diabetic feet at age 60!
