Opps. Yes. First thread as far as I can remember.
I hope someone finds it useful.

It should be adequate for most purposes. It will not support apple intelligence features. Apple should be announcing the updated version of the base level iPad within the next few weeks, which is anticipated to have an A18 or possibly A19 chip that both support apple intelligence. Worth the wait to me.

Maybe I'm just old, but iPads (and tablets in general) feel like they're 2010s relics. Phones got bigger to the point where they basically are mini-tablets. I guess they have uses in education though, but Chromebooks and MacBook Neo are probably better.
I use an iPad all the time but mainly for reading and research. Nothing quite like it in laptop form. Because you can hold it in landscape or portrait mode, which when your reading documents is very handy because documents are generally portrait mode. But I'm using the iPad mini preferably. You might like an iPad if you use it for things like that.

Someone may not want the ai features actually. iOS 26 has had so many problems and believe it or not but the older apple systems like iPhone 13/14 for example feel snappier than the newer iPhones because they simply can't run the ai features so it's just less issues.

Hopefully these will drop to $250 when they try to clear out the old inventory.

Same price that happens every few months and a few times a year slightly cheaper. I just wish the minis actually went on sale now and again.

Got a "ike new" from Amazon for $170 a couple of months ago but this is a decent price. Wait for the new ones to come out and these will be even cheaper.

Thinking about getting one to use as an on-wall display in the house for the security cameras.

Don't think age has anything to do with it. I'm no spring chicken, but I have multiple iPads and find them essential in my house for their assigned task. So, I think it just boils down to need. Sometimes you need a hammer, sometimes you need a mallet. Neither negates the existence of the other.

I have 3 that are wall mounted and powered by power over ethernet. I use these to control my smart devices and music collection.

I also have a free roaming one in the kitchen that serves as my digital newspaper.

Finally, I have a M5 Pro that is my main iPad and use for travel, reading books, etc. I also have a MacBook Pro which I use for video and photo editing. But most everything else I do with my iPad Pro.

Doubtful a base new iPad is coming out soon. It would have been announced at the event last week with everything else if it were. Given the 10th gen was 2022 and the 11th gen was 2025, it's likely to be either a fall 26' or Spring 27' release at this point.

I think the A16 works well. I got this model for my wife at xmas and I see no difference between this ipad and my Ipad pro M2. I like the landscape camera on this ipad vs the pro I have. It makes video visits way more user friendly.

I've been planning on getting one for a little while, so I've been watching. Most places who report on that sort of thing also thought they were going to be announced at the event too, but it seems like most of them are still predicting they'll be announced this month or next, but likely as a press release rather than another event.

Can someone explain the difference between the A series chips and the M series chip apple uses?
