Hype is well earned, it's my favorite moto phone in ages, but it's 2 years old at this point and not slated for any more OS updates (except security updates). If you don't mind the lack of software support tho, this phone is awesome.

Yes, this one is unlocked while the metro is locked for a year. I've also found that after getting two phones from Metro you can't get any more phones or tablets, at least not for some unknown amount of time.

Motorola calls this feature Smart Connect. The stylus phones can only use wireless (Miracast) and it's pretty laggy and not nice to use.

  1. Saves people the hassle of unlocking. (Time vs money)
  2. No carrier branding.
  3. FM Radio (2025 takes it away).
  4. Root + custom firmwares
    2025 adds:
    A. Better waterproofing
    B. Higher resolution & brighter screen
    C. Faster battery drain (supposedly being addressed with latest OS patches) (due to higher resolution + slightly faster cpu).
    D. Two more big camera-like lenses (for those that have issues looking at too many circles grouped together and get creeped out).
  5. Gsmarena.com has the full reviews + camera photos. The Sony Lytra sensor in the 2025 appears more contrasty, pushing dark areas blacker, so up to you if you like the look of one over the other.
Both are very good mid-range phones with a ton of features and ram that one used to have to buy a Galaxy Ultra etc for. Snappy for office, mail, web, chat, tube, don't expect an emulation powerhouse for gaming. (But that's what $$$ ROG etc phones are for if hardcore into that.)

Nice phone. I got it free several months ago with Straight talk and a few months of service. I use it when I travel and feels nearly as snappy as my Pixel 9.

Got this back in September 2024 for $350, heh. Best phone I've ever had. Read a bunch of reviews at the time and this was probably the least problematic phone from Motorola.
