I tried to do the same thing with my Motorola Moto G Stylus from around 2022. The keyboard and mouse worked, but the monitor only showed a mirrored version of the phone screen. The display looked cropped on the sides and did not switch into any kind of desktop mode.
My question is: Is this something that only certain phones support?
Specifically, can newer Motorola phones or other Android phones fully support this desktop style experience like Samsung Galaxy does, or is this mostly a Samsung-only feature? Thanks in advance.

Both are very good mid-range phones with a ton of features and ram that one used to have to buy a Galaxy Ultra etc for. Snappy for office, mail, web, chat, tube, don't expect an emulation powerhouse for gaming. (But that's what $$$ ROG etc phones are for if hardcore into that.)2025 adds:

B. Higher resolution & brighter screen
C. Faster battery drain (supposedly being addressed with latest OS patches) (due to higher resolution + slightly faster cpu).
