Horrible macros for an Isolate. 150 calories for 25g Protein. Isolates need to be 120 calories or below for 25g to be deemed good without alot of additives.

At this price, you should just get Ascent from Costco for basically the same price or a few dollars cheaper in store. Despite only being 4.25 lbs, Ascent has 58 or 60 servings (depending on vanilla or chocolate), roughly the same amount as this 5.4 lb bag.

And that's because you need a 41g serving of this to get 25g of protein. For Ascent, it only takes a 33g serving to get 25g of protein.

When you're buying whey, you're in it for the protein. You don't want/need this extra filler.

"Free of xantham gum and artificial sweeteners"

Huh? The ingredients specifically list xantham gum, and two artificial sweeteners (Sucralose & ACE-K).

Love the bro-science protein experts that just sit and wait for a protein powder post to bash it. Looking for deal on popcorn so I can enjoy the show properly.

I'm getting into protein drinks. Have been using fairlife Core Power but thinking I can do better with just the powder and liquid of my choice.
What's your recommendation for a good protein powder? Preferable without any taste if possible.

Its just so confusing. Half comments about stuff doesn't help anyone, if you're going to bash something, recommend what we should get instead!

I suggest learning about protein supplements if you plan on taking them. There are many widely different products out there. We should know what we are putting in our bodies. Don't blindly trust recommendations - the use scenarios may be totally different. (Could start here https://www.uchealth.org/today/pr...nd-safety/ )
For example: a vegetarian looking for a protein supplement probably wants a different product from a breastfeeding mother. Both of these would need different products from a performance athlete or body builder.
Figure out your purpose for taking the supplement, what your tolerance is for the different synthetic and natural sweeteners that are out there.
After that, the best protein is the one you can afford and the one you are willing to drink.

I got the vanilla version and it tasted so bad. Maybe I had a bad batch, but man it was the worst tasting protein powder I have ever tried.

3 years ago, this stuff was going for almost half of what it's going for now. Damn inflation.
Seriously? I haven't seen quality 5 lb bags of whey isolate for too much cheaper than this, even pre covid. Maybe they weren't as well-known?

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank elau.contact

Playing devil's advocate here despite all the negativity but it's higher calories due to the added MCT oil. It's also informed sport certified (every batch is tested for purity), which is higher tiered than informed choice (monthly checks).

Got this deal last time. It's fine, just what I feel is a huge scoop compared to other protein powders making the mixing more difficult and more whey chunks in the shake. Flavor is fine. I probably won't get it again though after this bag is gone.

I usually get Nutricost Grass-fed isolate because I can't have sucralose. I usually buy 5lb tubs for between $45 and $60. I just checked and non-sale price is over $130! What the heck is going on? I'm lucky I have 3 tubs (unflavored, vanilla, and chocolate). All these people getting on the protein train are driving up the prices. Ugh.

This is 60 servings. So price per gram of protein isn't great, but I don't think it's bad. I got Dymatize Iso 100 vanilla early last year for about $53, which is 78 servings of 24g each. This is 60 servings of 25g each. Don't really feel like mathing right now, but you can see a difference.

That being said, this has added leucine (which is supposed to be a muscle building signal) as well as some "healthy" MCTs added.

Not just you, I got vanilla the last time this deal came and it gives me the most artificial lingering aftertaste for like 3 hours after I eat it. I'm still finishing the bag because I'm a cheapo but not buying it again.

The Dutch chocolate has to be the best-tasting protein powder I have ever tried. I have since moved on to the Ascent brand, which does not contain any artificial sweeteners, such as Sucralose.
Not purely isolate though.

Everything is getting more expensive. It's increasingly more and more expensive every day to produce products. The popularity of protein powder may possibly be a contributing factor, but I'd say most of the price increase is due to raw ingredient price increases as well as things like facility costs, electricity, transportation, fuel, etc.
