Pretty harsh reviews on forums like reddit and YouTube (troubled performance vs similar price range models) (but thank you for sharing regardless!)

I got the Anbernic Rg35xx last year for less before tariffs kicked in, and it has HDMI out. That part may not matter to you but if you want to game on a big screen it gives you that option.

Anbernic RG35XXPro has the analog sticks, non pro does not. If you're interested in GBA, you probably don't need the sticks. If you want to run N64, you probably want them. Supposedly the Pro can run moonlight to stream PC games in house, but it didn't work out of the box for me, and there's too many other ways to play to waste time on it for me right now. I played a little Mario 64 on it, and a bunch of racing games various platforms.

R36S has dual sticks, R33S does not. I got a lot of mileage out of my R33S. Zelda Minish Cap for GBA occupied me for a while. These are open source devices so there are a lot of flavors out there, but I think they mostly work fine.

I tried a Miyoo Mini from Amazon seller, it shorted itself after a handful of uses, but my 30 day warranty was passed already so never really got to use it. My brother had a Miyoo device with one analog stick that he liked - A30 - he was playing a bunch of the SNK Neo Geo games on it.

Says battery life is 4-6 hours, but does anyone have real world experience on this?
Road trip in a few months so this might keep the kids busy at night.

I've owned a variety of these inexpensive handhelds. You definitely need to do your research as they will have trade offs. That being said, if you own a steam deck then you already own one of the greatest retro gaming handhelds. Unless you need a smaller form factor, a steam deck is usually the best choice.
